Happy weight

Yeah, at 5'8" mine was 148 - which is basically where I am, and I'm still not happy! I really want to get down to 138, it just seems like these last few pounds are GOING NOWHERE!!! ARGH!!!! :explode:
Hang on in there, AJCM! They're gonna go away, it just takes time when your body's already happy with its weight and you're healthy.
My scale was also awfully stubborn for a couple of months - did not want to show anything bellow 133. Then it broke, so I was w/o a scale for like 10 days. Had some of those days off and some of them extremely busy. So when I got the new scale, I figured it's too cheap to be correct - I crossed the 130 border. :drinker: (checked it against others and it was right!) Judging by my clothes, it's gotta be right!
Bottom line is, keep up the spirit! You'll get there. Maybe it's best to weight in only once a week, donno. I mean, once I got bellow 130 I got scared and every pound up puts me low again. Wrong, wrong, wrong. :grumble:
Kim, well done!
And Anna_Bannana, thanks a lot for the link. My happy weight is above my current weight, go figure! Check this out: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm . It just proves to me (I played around) that we're never happy with our weight (keep that too in mind, AJCM )0 -
If this is supposed to be my happy weight, then I must be miserable!!!! haha0
-
:grumble: Ah... ok.... it's just for you wimmens! :drinker: Nuttin 'bout us guys there, so I guess we don't warrant a Happy Weight? :laugh:0

Okay, I don't think they know what makes everyone happy.
My "happy weight" is 116!! I know I'm only 5'3" but still, the only time I was 115 I was stick slender and had no muscle. I'm shooting for 125!
I would look like one of those really flimsy toothpick girls at 116! I could break a girl in half at that size. A girl at work was that weight and my height and she looked sickly!0 -
Honestly -- I think it is an approach at setting a more realistic goal rather than your "ideal" goal that you come up with from when you were 18 or your thinnest.. etc. For me I was 128 during college and I can't imagine being that size again -- I was tooooo skinny for me. My "happy weight" is 153 and that is roughly where I am and I want to weigh a little less but I am happy; size 10 jeans on a 5'9" frame looks fab to me.. maybe not to others but who cares.
I guess it's as relative as the number you have in your head, on some weight loss guide, or on the scale...
Be happy because you're alive, able, healthy (or working on becoming healthier) and living your life.. that's really what makes me happy!!:bigsmile:0 -
Hmmm, it says my "Happy Weight" is 141... That would be nice! Right now I'd be happy with 150. :ohwell:0
-
my happy weight was the weight I started off with 6 months ago! !!!!!!!:blushing: I've lost 8lb in all but am happy with me now, didn't like the other, too plump.
:ohwell:0 -
WOW! Even with changing my frame to the largest...it still puts me at a weight 5 pounds less than my goal. I tend to be weight obsessed though...so once I reach my goal I'm going to work on toning up and just staying 5 pounds within my goal.0
-
you can figure out your frame size by wrapping your main fingers and thumb around your wrist. if your fingers and thumb overlap you have a small frame, if they touch or barely touch you're a medium and if they don't touch you're a large.:flowerforyou:
I can touch one finger, but I'm not sure this is totally accruate. 30 pounds ago I couldn't touch any fingers. Does that mean my frame size changed?
You use your wrist right at the wrist bones right before it joins to the hands. This area should not fluctuate with weight.
Oh, and my "happy weight" is not what I'm aiming for--it's 3 pounds below and I think that would be too low. In fact, I'm aiming for 140 but will see how I look at 160/150 and might stop there. I have such a large frame and don't want to look like a stick figure. It's been so long since I weight that though that I can't remember how I looked, so it will be a wait and see type thing.0 -
I need to take a page out of Queen Latifah's book and focus on "size healthy". As my doctor said at my physical back in May, "Your BMI is 23, why does a number on the scale matter so much?". And she was right - I need to focus on fitness, and feeling well, not some crazy scale!

Mine said 139.2.
I'm currently at 138 at 5'9'' and am aiming for around 133. I don't know about the frame thing though- i have skinny wrists and very long fingers, but for someone my height is it ok to say a small frame?0 -
Yea, I was only off by .2 OZ.  I am happy with my happy weight since it was my goal weight anyways. I am happy that I was not being outrageous~0
-
i tried to calculate my happy weight, but it didn't work because it said i'm too young...i'm 20 years old. did anyone else have this problem?0

HEY!!! You are my goal weight (although I'm only 5'8"). I'm going to check out your pics again to see what I can aim to look like!!! LOL!!!
I bet you already look pretty terrific, although that goal of 133 is just around the corner! Go girl!

BAREFOOTBABE - you are like a model!!! Wow!!! You look AMAZING!

I'm envious....

Wow mine says 134...I think I'd feel like skin and bones at 134! My goal weight is 150, but for my height I'd be in the normal weight range at 146...so that's where I'd ultimately like to be...*I don't know why that extra 4 pounds scares me so much, but I have always had my goal at 150 and will stick with that for now...it's still a long way to go!*
I think my happy weight is actually a bit higher than the website said.0 -

My HAppy Weight is 125...excactly what i'm looking for! now time to work hard on getting there.... :ohwell:0

I guess what is a little frightening is that 159 is where I THINK I want to be...but maybe I really should be aiming for a different goal. It all seems so complicated. I've never been that small, so I don't know if it would be too skinny for me. I guess I'll just try to get to 159 to begin with, then go from there. This is all so confusing.... :ohwell:0

There isn't anything wrong with aiming for different goals. Mine WAS 130lbs....my "happy weight" is 133..... That's a BIG loss for me (like over 50lbs!)! It's also very overwhelming to think about. So, I am taking advice of others and breaking it down into about 10lb increments. When I lose that amount then I will go for another 10....the another....and so on. Til I either hit my "happy/Goal weight" or I find the weight I am content with.
Cause I agree, I may not WANT to be a small as the suggested weight.... :huh:0 -
Mine said 120, but that is what I am right now, and NOT happy! Pretty cool though, made me feel better!:flowerforyou:0

The thing to remember is that this is based on some simple formula that some people came up with. For most people it looks like it is hitting around 5 pounds within their goal. For a few it's way low or way high. But some people like to be really thin and some don't mind a little meat on their bones. Personally I would love to be 20 lbs less than what my goal is, but I know for me I would have to constantly have to work to stay that low. 145 is a weight that I know I would look good at and be able to maintain.
You can be actually be happy at any weight if you learn to love and accept yourself. Once you do that you will quit eating to sooth yourself and you will eventually hit your happy weight.0 -
BAREFOOTBABE - you are like a model!!! Wow!!! You look AMAZING!

I'm envious....
Oh thanks Amanda!! :blushing: I don't feel like it though!! I just want to get rid of those last little bits. And it's funny how your mind just gets used to thinking of your body a certain way, and that doesn't always change when your body does... Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever be happy!!0 -
It says my happy weight is 122.2, but my goal is 135. I'd love to get that thin again, but I'd be happy loosing my over 40 lbs.0

I think you hit the nail on the head! Maybe we are just too hard on ourselves! I know that my hubby says I'm perfect as I am, but I can actually see the flaws, but honestly, your body looks perfect!!! I hope you don't stress too much about these last pounds, because it looks like you've hit a great weight!
Good luck!

OMG 135 reminds me of the 6th grade! I would be over the moon get back into the 130's...

Seems about 15-20 pounds to low for me, but we will see when the time comes.0

The link is broken! Oh, but I found this one that works:
http://www.self.com/calculatorsprograms/calculators/happyweight
I did the tape measure test, though and came up as medium frame (I am 5'7"). I'm skeptical, because there are so many tops that will not fit me because my ribcage is so large (33.5 inches right under my bra strap with my breath expelled). That was true even back in high school! And my shoulders are broad, my knees are huge (16.5 inches). So I always figured I had a large frame.
They are saying my happy weight is 140.2. My original weight goal was 140, but after getting my body fat tested at the YMCA a few months ago, they said I should shoot for 155 for 23% body fat. I decided to change my goal to 150, which would put me closer to 20%. Assuming the same lean body mass, 140 would be only 14.7% body fat! So I'm not sure this calculator is correct for me.0 -
Um... I put in all the info but there was no "calculate" button or anything. Nothing happened. Is it just me?0
-
For me, they said my happy weight is 118.7lbs. My goal is 110lbs. I was told more than a couple of times that 118 is where I should be. I'm going to wait and see how I feel when I reach 120. I may change my goal.0
