comfort food junkie

Tonight I found my self faced with a big issue with my oldest daughter. I can not believe how programed my brain and body is to automatically seeking out junk food for comfort. When did this start??????
My mouth actually salivating at just merely looking in the food pantry. I feel like I should be in an A.A. meting or something. Dieting is more than just counting those calories I guess. I see where people get the saying its a change of life. For all you out there who know what I am talking about hang in there. It is hard but tonight, for the first time I didn't fall off the wagon. I wanted to leap off but I didn't and it feels great.

:flowerforyou: Good job! Your eyes will be opened many times on your journey, you will fall off and get back on and that is ok. One good choice made today and many more to come.:drinker:0

i know what helps my mom with her comfort junk food cravings are those 100 calorie packs...most of them are very tasty plus you can normally get your fix in without wrecking your whole day0

I struggle with comfort foods too. I saw on a documentary years ago, a gentleman who lost an incredible amount of weight. I wish I could remember his name. Anyway, was a food addict (I don't think I'm there, but who knows) and one thing he said really caught my attention. He had gained the weight back and then some and was explaining why he felt that he was unsuccessful and said, "How many alcoholics would be successful, if they needed just a litle alcohol every day to live?"
It's just an example of course, but for some like me, eating better also means examining my relationship with food and why I make the choices I do...or did....or did do.0 -
I am right there with you. I still think about macaroni and cheese every week. Its not that I can't have it it is more that as soon as I do I will want all the other things I love.
Stay strong and keep doing great.0 -
Yep, I am also a "food junkie". So totally agree with the "what if an alcoholic had to have a little bit of alcohol to live" comment above.
You can get to the point where you can just have a sensible portion. . . most days. Everyday, heck every meal is a new start... a new chance to make choices that are better for you.
You know what I've discovered is as good as comfort food? Actual comfort. Treat yourself. Take a hot bath, get a manicure, call a friend that makes you laugh, go window shopping. Anything you enjoy that is for YOU. You deserve it.:flowerforyou:0 -
I hear you there. Its not easy. I have tried to diet so many times... but I'm glad you made the right choice.0

My cravings are chocolate so I try to stay away from it. After I put my baby to sleep last night, I added up my calories and found I went 50 over, which is okay but I couldn't have any dessert so I just grabbed some gum and watched American Idol.0

Yep, we've all had a few days we had to say no, sucks but having that control over your decisions is a good feeling!:flowerforyou:0
