So my first 5k is a week from today. Yesterday I ran the trail for the first time where the 5k is going to be. I started having ankle pain just as I was finishing my run. Today it is really painful. What should I be doing? I don't want to miss my first 5k :(

Is this just like a packed dirt or gravel trail, or is it real 'trail running', meaning you're on very uneven surfaces, jumping over treee roots, etc.?

For true trail running, you usually need a different shoe that gives you more lateral stability.

Take anti-inflammatories round the clock for the next few days and periodically ice the ankle. If it doesn't start to improve, you need to see your doctor.
  • it is like packed dirt and shell. Its the first time I ran it. I have been running on a treadmill. Then I went outdoors to a paved trail and then this trail. I am going to take today off from running.
