Hi All, Im new here and immediately found my ambition and motivation once I started plugging in what I eat and what I do each day. Ive been in a gym before but it was 15 minutes away (Yeah thats not gonna work). Plus it was expensive and I ended up spending more time in the jacuzzi.

In the last 6 months, I had a hysterectomy, my son is grown and moved to Georgia and Im not dating anyone. So where is my motivation you ask? Answer: I dont (didnt) have any.

I started a new job 2 years ago and went from being on my feet all day to sitting behind a desk all day (did I mention Burger King is right down the road next to Dunkin Donuts)? Well Ive gained 30 lbs in a very short time and now hardly any of my clothes fit (and I have 3 closets of clothes).

SO, I had enough. I cant procrastinate anymore. I joined a gym 5 minutes from my house (on the way home from work). Ive been going at least every other day (either morning or night) and have started really watching what I eat (Oh those cravings are killing me). I have a lot of weight to lose, but Im determined to look good by July when I go on vacation.

Hi I'm 45 and just joined about a month ago. You will have to figure out what motivates you because without motivation, you probably won't stick with diet and exercise. Set down and write some goals on paper. Short term and long term and figure out a reward. We all like to get a prize when we do something great. Surround yourself with friends on here, log everything you eat and most importantly figure out what will give you the burn to lose the weight. You can do it! I've lost almost 9 lbs in the short time I've been on here. The support on mfp is great! Good luck to you. Add me if you like, I'd be happy to help you:)

Welcome. After 10 years of gaining weight and despair, my rationale was this: Surgery would be like $10K, right? Why don't I commit $5K (that I don't have) to a personal trainer, and it will be cheaper and healthier? So instead, I paid $500 to a trainer for one month -- it was a 30 minute drive 3 times a week. I lost 20 pounds and I'm now on my own and doing good, thanks to MFP.

Find a positive and negative motivation: Something to look forward to, and something you don't want.

At 44, and looking young as you do, I'd say get rid of that anchor-weight and start a new life!

Welcome! Your motivation is to do it for you! I feel so much better about myself now that I have lost 50lbs. Once you really get going and on track you will much better to. You have come to the right place here on MFP, there is so much support and inspiriation, just keep coming back and start anew each day! you can do this just believe in yourself! Good luck.

Sorry but I totally misread your post. I thought you were lacking motivation but I read again and see that you have found it. That is awesome. I'm sure it's tough with your son being gone but now you can focus on you. You deserve it:) Avoid those restaurants including dunkin donuts and you will do wonderfully. Best of luck to you :)
  • Thank you all so much.... Deep down I really am doing it for me, but since I never put myself first its hard to start thinking about me. HOWEVER, the good news is that my mom who had major foot surgery 2 years is going to start getting motivated too. She would always say at 65 there was no point, that she's happy the way she is (gaining weight), that she's given up looking thinner for men who are virtually non existant at her age (yes I couldve done a Cher move in Moonsruck and said, "SNAP OUT OF IT"), but I digress.

We were going to go to the movies tomorrow, but when I suggested packing a lunch and walking around the lake she loved the idea. So we'll have some time together, talking, walking eating healthy and THEN go to a movie.
