Okay here I go...getting up on my soap box.

I CANT stand people, companies, and supplement stores who sell the FANTASY of lose all that weight you took years to put on in three FAST months.:explode: It PISSES me off!

Too many women who have NO knowledge of nutrition/ weights/ gym workouts etc get sucked in to these BS SCAMS!

One AMAZING example of this is the "how I lost 44 lbs in three months FAST" scam that's listed on this web site. SAD, SAD, SAD. Two posts with PROOF that this green tea crap was a scam were erased off "Laura's" site. Couldn't handle the heat? OR couldn't handle the TRUTH. Either way, it's just another reason to not trust a web site that CLAIMS you can lose weight by doing nothing healthy.

Here's a bit of amazing information.

IF the headlines are: "Lose weight FAST" <--there's NO such healthy thing, or "no need to change your eating habits" <---total BS, OR and I love this one  , "you don't even ahve to work out"
IT'S A S-C-A-M!!!!!

One: It is NOT healthy to lose that much weight in such a short time ask ANY nutrituinist/ personal trainer
TWO: You have to change the way you eat (portions)/ /what you eat /and how often you eat to get your body to start burning fat efficiently (again ask ANY nutritionist)
THREE: No matter what supplements you take, no matter what they "promise" you, know this...you HAVE TO BURN the calories you take in over the day to lose weight ( 3 days a week in the gym maintains your body/ 4-5 burns that excess caloric intake= lose weight)
and finally.....
FOUR: Liquid diets will NOT, I repeat, WILL NOT make you lose weight and "keep it off". It's a starvation diet; your body goes into starvation mode and creats more fat (food for later when you're starving it) and once you stop your "miracle" liquid diet WHAMO!!!!! the weight comes back on, and you're out hundreds of dollars. Awesome isn't it? How companies like Laura's like to take people for a ride? Outright lie... oh and delete posts from people who actually know that the product doesn't work.

Ugh..... it's sad that these people can't be stoned in public for cheating unknowing women and girls out of their money...oh yeah and don't forget about the screwing with your head issue too. Immoral and just plain wrong.

Fad diets aren't the answer ladies and gentlemen... working hard, sweating at the gym/ home workouts, eating healthy and losing weight the RIGHT way is the answer. It isn't an easy road, but it's better than the BS alternative that Fad diets give you.:grumble: :noway:

There, I'm off my soapbox. Research, research, research...before you fall for gimmicks like Laura's amazing miracle cure for fat loss. PLEASE..........just do the research.:ohwell:

While I agree with most everything you're saying..

Under my nutritionist and my doctor I lost 45 lbs in 3 months safely.... and I did not go to the gym until I hit my 45 lbs mark.

I do agree, but there are times that losing weight that seems like a lot fast isn't "horrible" and under doctors control. However, I did gain about 20 lbs in a month, so it makes it easier to lose that weight.
  • I can understand that under STRICT Doctor's care that your kind of weight loss is possible...BUT FAD diets are NOT the way to do it.

I just get tired of women being taken advantage of "especially now that the market is targeting teenagers, of which most DON'T know better, and completely screwing them up.

ANY program that doesn't say "hey make sure you do the research" I have issue with. There's a reason that there are absolutely NO neagtives on "Laura's" web site....and it isn't because they weren't there. Two days ago they were.... Nice censorship "Laura".

Audrey had posted that women need to look to nutritionists/ personal trainers/ and magzines like Oxygen, Fitness RX, and although it is not as good as it used to be...Muscle and Fitness Hers, for HEALTHY ways to lose the weight.

Weight loss is a LIFE commitment, a new way of taking care of yourself and living healthy.... fad diets take your money, give you FALSE promises, and in the end you put the weight back on.:angry:

That kind of BS really upsets me, because it knocks a lot of women down and some just get tired of "trying" because of scams like the green tea diet. It's wrong, very wrong.

Anywhoo.........like I said in several of my other posts; I've been a gym rat/ weight lifting for over 17 years and taking supplements for 12 of them. I'm well aware of what is and is not healthy when it comes to diets, and it's just sickening to see women get their hopes up on scams.

Agree with most of what you said except this part--if you only eat what you burn," then that's called starving or starvation mode. You have to eat a minimum of 1200 a day plus eat back your exercise calories to avoid starving. I'm sure that's what you meant but just put it slightly wrong, so I wanted to clarify. There are many who don't understand the need to eat at LEAST 1200 a day (and that's too low for most), so I wanted to get that part clear.
  • My bad..... I didn't realize I wasn't clear enough. :ohwell:

Thanks for putting that out there.

    Indeed you are correct...

ahhhhh I love Rants!! this is official my favorite.
I was in the gym (woman's center part of it) and was getting stared at because I did 3 hours of cardio......the first 2 girls were talking the whole time, reading magazines, never broke a sweat and left withing 45 minutes. The next two had no water bottles or SHOES???
so even tho they were staring at me....at least I had 1.5 liters of water, a towel for my SWEAT, and shoes on my darned feet......
haha my little rant to add to yours.....it just bugs me when people think that 30-40 minutes is enough for weight loss.....you gotta break a sweat...push it to the MAX!!!!

haha ok I'm done as well!!! Thanks so much for this

I heard from one of the grapevines around here that the Alli diet was basically like taking laxatives - any truth to that?

  • Oh...Yeah, I have a one-up on yah. I go to the gym, my favorite of all the gyms I've belonged to in a little town of Mechanicsville VA. In the girls locker room are two girls in their full-up booty aparell, putting on makeup before their workout.

I used to call them the "look at me twins". Ugh, made me sick. where is the dang puking emoticon? LOL.

Anywhoo, you are correct, you can't do any real good if you're reading or talking on your phone etc... It's a workout, not a chill out session when you go to the gym. :grumble:

Hey, I'm in Blacksburg, VA. I don't think you're that far from me.

Oh, and AWESOME thread, and I totally agree. I hate those ads.

Guntherma, Alli isn't exactly like a laxative. A laxative will usually increase peristalsis, or contractions in the intestines, to speed defecation. Alli prevents about half of dietary fat from being absorbed in the intestines. Because it's not absorbed, it exits with the fecal matter. Because it is an oil, it's not a solid mass that takes effort to push out...so it can leak easily.

    that's a good one! z7shysterical.gif

Oh, and let me add, too, that I lost 45 pounds my first 3 months on MFP, healthy and safe. So, yes, it's possible but you've got to be under doctor's care to make sure it's safe AND healthy. Also, I had alot to lose so I was a calorie burning machine! I used to be able to go for an hour bike ride and burn up 1200 calories. I could eat 1300 calories a day and still have 1000 calorie a day deficit!

    Those were the days! deprimetriste294230fr.gif

Now, I'm thrilled if I lose 1 pound a week and a really great week will see 2 pounds gone.

Hehehe.... I just had a very similar rant about the Kimkins Diet a while ago! I so totally agree about the fleecing of people, and the ridiculousness the marketers go to. Simply put, if it sounds too good to be true, then it it is. But then, that's why were all in here, yea!

By now, most of you may have seen Banks Farewell post.....and I know of some of the questions that were asked that are along these lines of "I want to lose it all today". It really makes me sad, and sometimes I do want to verbally whack that person on the head.....but the best thing we can do is ignore it, right?

I'm just really warring with the same things that Banks left for. I miss so many of the people who used to post and be fun and......now it's the same questions a million times.

I have made so many friends here.....but I really wonder at times if it's worth staying.

And, as I'm typing this, "How I Lost 44 Pounds Fast" is the banner at the top of the page....

I've heard a number of times now this morning..... 'same questions being asked over and over again'.....but when each of us joined...depending on where we were in our journey.....many folks had many many questions....and I guess I don't see a problem with questions being asked here...as long as they are site related....I'm not sure I understand the frustration of some of you folks that have been on here awhile.

Weren't we all new once/???? Did we know 'it ALL' the very first day we joined? I know I didn't, I didn't know how to do a search on questions already asked.....I found this the easiest to get around on site...but I think I have a fair bit of common sense and a pretty good brain, but because I asked questions when I first joined .......am I too one of those folks that is counted in with the 'same questions over and over'....

Don't we feel it's our duty to help new folks on their journeys...isn't that part of why we stay as we continue on our own journey....we welcome others to join us..... a desire to make others journey more comfortable at the beginning seems to make sense to me.

Now of course there will always be folks in the world that prefer to ASK and ASK and ASK some more to get others to do the work for them, even after they've learned how to do it themselves....they find it easier to find someone and just ask.

But really in the end and even along the way....those folks may not have as positive a journey as others who have taken time to learn & gain knowledge on their own once they were shown some direction.

    just some of my thoughts....:drinker:

I agree with all you have said. And the posts I have mentioned were not so much how to work the site or about the caloric intake or the motivation. It is the ones that are looking for a fast fix. Like the banner.

I'm not calling anyone out, I just am saddened when it happens. That's all. I suppose I'm just disappointed and sad right now.

    Forgive me if I offend.

WOW....whacking a new person on the head?? Ignoring them?? whoa....those are strong words for someone that has had success here. I think paying it forward is a great way to look at helping new folks...

WOW.....that brought tears to my eyes to read those strong words:cry:

Cause ya know ...I still consider myself quite new here...and I am more than happy to share what I know from experience, whether it be facts of if someone is just asking about something in particular I might know. I had no clue folks wanted to whack me on the head verbally or ignore me when I questions that came up.

Geesh...not sure I have much more to add to this...as now I'm balling....

So sorry us new folks seem to be such a HUGE burden on you veterans..........I really had no clue that's how so many folks felt.......

I can honestly say.....I've never felt that way toward a new person.....tryin to dig deep now in my memory but can't recall one time I've wanted to ignore someone or whack them.......:noway:

Ok, time for me to find something else to do besides MFP for a bit......nah....nobody's gonna chase me offa here....I mean only gonna go vacumn or something to de-stress. Weird I know....but it's what I do to de-stress...do something physical and then the house then looks and feels great as well.

Ok, time for me to find something else to do besides MFP for a bit......nah....nobody's gonna chase me offa here....I mean only gonna go vacumn or something to de-stress. Weird I know....but it's what I do to de-stress...do something physical and then the house then looks and feels great as well.

I ruined a great post with frustration and I apologize. I have reported my own post so that it may be removed. I can't apologize enough for hurting you or anyone else.

    :frown:

Unfortunately I was writing when your post above was being sent so I didn't see it until after mine was sent. :(

When folks that have been around awhile....it's hard to see them feel it's time to move on....I am so sorry so many of you are sad.....I too feel a loss, Banks had/has some incredible wisdom he shared so freely.

Yea, I was one of his frequent bumpers as folks would ask something and immediately I KNEW of the post that would help them....so off I would into my blog and click a bump for someone.

Thank you for further explaining what you meant by what you wrote.

Yes, there are many folks who come to fitness groups/forums that want it done now! RIGHT NOW!

Those of us who are a bit more familiar with this site realize this is NOT for someone that needs to lose weight and make healthy lifelong changes and want to do it overnight.

So in that...I can understand your frustration...... but I still don't have an urge to ignore them....but like I shared I haven't been here as long was some of you have. I haven't heard the same questions over and over. Hopefully when I have my first year logged here as a member....I still will be fine with responding to questions from new folks.

But I will be open in explaining that this is an awesome site...IF YOU WORK IT, use the tools, and realize nothing will happen overnight except a change of perspective, attitude etc.....

    whew.....totally exausted now:yawn:

I am so so so sorry for hurting your feelings Chick. It was something I supposed I should have kept to myself. And for the record it wasn't directed at you and obviously I have no room to talk because I have been here a year with no real progress.

    That's all I can say.

Oh...Yeah, I have a one-up on yah. I go to the gym, my favorite of all the gyms I've belonged to in a little town of Mechanicsville VA.

    "Little town of Mechanicsville" z7shysterical.gif

    that's a good one! z7shysterical.gif

Now, I'm thrilled if I lose 1 pound a week and a really great week will see 2 pounds gone.

oh GIRL...but those MUSCLES you're gaining on your body as you cid_000301c9295e07d0d140cb21544cVAL.gif and your heart is just loving all that attention and getting so much stronger from all that excercise.

Do you do measurements? You may have already said so Shore but I don't recall.....I can only imagine your muscles must have certainly taken over in places you never saw before:drinker:

Oh, and the pic above? Maybe try looking out for that rock next time?
  • i totally agree with you. i'm so sick of those ad's all over the web. every ad on myspace is some half naked person that lost gobs of weight "with no diet or exersize" what ever. drives me nuts.

I don't mind people asking the same questions--it gets tiring when the same people ask the same questions over and again or ask but don't listen. Know what I mean on that?

But we all had to learn at least once. I asked many of the same routine questions when I came on here. I
also find the atmosphere little changed since I came on here--more people now but that's always a good thing--more people means more motivations and more success stories!

When I get tired of answering questions, I just stop--someone else always chimes in anyway with good thoughts. Geesh, I still have a lot of questions I ask--that's why we're all here, right? to get help?

It gets frustrating at times on here, yeah sure--but heck, life is frustrating. Nothing is every going to be just the way you like it.

so ask away! If I don't feel like answering, I won't! And if you don't feel like answering, then don't! No hurt feelings either way as far as I'm concerned.

I have a friend who was a beautiful specimen of a man. He was chisled and cut. He was hansome and smart. He was also a trainer at a local gym and one of those kind of people who helped me get started for free.

He told me he was in one of those before and after pictures for a company we have all seen on TV.
He was told to put on 20-30 pounds for the before picture. All he needed to do was continue to eat his 3500 cals a day and stop his weight training. put it on real fast.

Then because he was only 2/3 months out from full out weight lifting, he shed the weight in 3-4 wks.

Also, we all can have a before and after picture. I did it....it is pretty damn funny.

Put on a sports bra (not YOU max!) and bicycle shorts.
Stand facing the camera, do not smile, tuck in your chin. Let your shoulders down and arms flat to your body or worse cross them in front.
    do NOT suck in.

    Now take another.
Lift your chin, lift your shoulders. Put your hands behind your back. Good posture...you are PROUD
Suck in your stomach. put 1 shoulder to the camera, or cross your legs at ankle
    SMILE....

OMG I laughed so hard. I lost 20 POUNDS in 1 picture. I still have it somewhere. I made a side by side for my friend.
