Really bad way to start the day

So I go in this morning to check our bank account and reconcile it using Quicken, and there's this charge on there for almost $1200 to Southwest Airlines--problem is, we didn't make it!!!!!! I've called but they said I'll have to file a "fraud claim" and it will take a few days to get my money back  :explode: :explode: :explode: :explode: :explode:

I've been using debit cards and shopping online for years and years and this is the first time something like this has happened---man, am I ticked!

Thankfully, I reconcile our accounts EVER day so caught this quick--I highly suggest y'all keep a very close eye on your bank accounts and credit card accounts!!

Sorry to hear about that - what a stress! How has your bank handled this? My mother in law had this happen several years ago and her bank bent over backwards to help her out. I tend to stress more about finances that anything - but just keep reading Philipians 4:6, and know it will work out!

My brother has had 2 checks not clear his bank for almost a year and has called many time and no one seems to know where they are and I'm sure it came out of some elses account and they apparently do not check their accounts (it's a couple hundred dollars). :noway:

Fraud alert your name at ALL 3 credit agencies... been there, done that. Not fun.
My bank notifies me if there is ever a charge more than 300 dollars.
    good luck!

So sorry to hear! I hope it all gets straightened out. Might want to open an account with a new number in case the thief has that info and plans to use it again. Hope your day gets better! :flowerforyou:

Like mentioned above, pull a credit report now on all three agencies.
You are entitled to one free report every 12 months, or in cases of fraud like this.

Okay, so here's the insurance agent checking in...

    1. I agree with the above post. Contact all three credit agencies (TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian) and put them on fraud alert. You should also pull your full credit report (usually costs about $25) and make sure there are no fake credit cards on there.

    2. Everyone should look into some type of Identity Theft protection. My company offers is as an additional coverage on your property policy (homeowners/condo/renters). For us is costs $30 a year and provides you with $25,000 worth of protection from fraudulent claims. We also pay for you to work with a credit restoration specialist.

Now, what you experienced is Credit Card fraud. Someone stole your credit card number and used it. That is different from Identity Theft. Identity Theft is when someone takes your name, birthdate, and social security number and open up new Credit Cards without your knowledge. That is why you should montior your credit reports, to make sure something like that isn't going on.

I know, I'm all gloom and doom. :grumble: That's my job. But everyone needs to be protected from situations involving your credit. It affects far too much (loans, mortgages, insurance, etc....) for you to let your credit get destroyed by someone else.
