NEW BALANCE OR POLAR HRM?! (Which one do you have?)

I'm having a tough time making my last pick for the HRM to purchase!
Does the Polar HRM record the steps like the New Balance HRM
I couldn't find that on the Polar HRM when I compared the two, in the store. I was bummed I couldn't make a 'New Topic' on my app :grumble: so thats why I'm late making one now. Do anyone have any suggestions!!! Help Please!!:frown:

Think about what you want the HRM to do. Monitory your heart rate / calories burned or act as a pedometer? If it's going to do both, and do it well, it is likely to be very expensive, otherwise I'd invest in a HRM to do that sole task. Polar is going to be your best option in my opinion. Leave New Balance to focus on their shoes0

Polar HRMs don't count steps. They area a very good HRM though and I would personally pick the Polar over the New Balance and buy a separate pedometer if you want to know your step count. I have a Polar F4 (predecessor of the FT4) and use it all the time. I've never had any problems with it.0

Yea that would be the best thing to do. I like the fact that the Polar, I could always buy a step counter, I'm really interested in know how many calories I'm burning, sometimes I believe the machines are not accurate!!0 -

So it gives you very accurate pulse rates? How long have you had your New Balance HRM? Is it a comfort fit?

i got it a few weeks ago. now it doesnt have the chest strap and is just the watch, so you have to take your heartrate. when i am on the treadmill i take it every 3 mins. i mean it only takes you putting two fingers on it for 3 seconds. it will tell you if you are in the zone or out of the zone. the more times you take it during your workout, the more accurate. i did not want that chest strap!! i think its pretty accurate. it shows less cals burned than MFP, and we KNOW that they are wrong!! :bigsmile:0 -
I have Polar FT40. I did lots of research on many brands Timex, Polar, Garmin, New Balance, generic p.o.s. from Wally World before deciding on Polar. They use a chest strap and everything I've read says when choosing a HRM it's better to pick one with a chest strap for better accuracy. It's defnitely better than MFP's estimates. The strap is very comfortable and you really forget it's there.
For an example I'd jog and walk mixed for 1 hr. MFP would estimate I'd burn 700 calories while Polar would say 900-1100. It doesn't record steps but they have models and accessories that you can get that will record distance and pace. If thats something you may wanna get down the road.0 -

Yes, the chest strap is very adjustable and comfortable. Generally the polar watches come with a M - XXL chest strap which will fit a chest size of 29 - 44 inches. You can ask for this to be replaced with a XS - S (Chest size <28 inch) or a XXXL (chest size >44 inch) if needed.0
