I know a cheat day can be helpful in boosting your metabolism... but I seriously ate horrible - in choice and amount - and checked to see what damage I had done and I managed to LOSE! And I'm hypothyroidic!

Can someone explain this to me? :: raises eyebrow ::

I always wonder about this too...maybe it's cause you're shaking up your metabolism by going "over" calories sometimes? don't look a gift horse (gift pound?) in the mouth :)

youve probably done all the right things before the weekend. It can take a few days for your body to show up what you have done - so i suspect that you have done a great job last week (as long as you are eating well and enough, and exercising) then that is probably why! Without knowing your track history though its hard for me to guess.

The body is a funny creature, for sure! I can't explain either, but I've had similar experiences. Couple years ago, I was trying (yet again) to lose weight. I was barely losing a pound a week, IF that. Then came Thanksgiving and I pretty much lived off the leftover pie for several days. Weighted myself after and had lost about 5 pounds! I couldn't understand it either. I guess just take the loss as a "get out of jail free" from your body and move on trying to make healthier choices next time (cuz next time we might not be so lucky!). :)
  • I'm jealous.......occasional cheat days "Tricks" your body into believing you've increased your caloric consumption again...and your body will usually increase your metabolism to adjust for the upwards shift in calories....however once you return to good behavior your body doesn't always catch up immediately and might still be burning more calories (increased metabolism) than the amount it should be burning for the decrease......I am no expert this is my rough understanding of the effects of calorie-shifting.....BUT in any case.....I'm jealous :-) Enjoy it:-) Hip-Hip-Hooray!!! :drinker:

Weigh yourself next week you'll probably gain or remain stable. calories are cummulative. and i dont know why or where you got the idea cheat days are good for your metabolism. they dont do anything. your metabolism doesnt work that way. it takes time for it to adjust to different diets or exercise. not one day here or there. more like weeks/months

I was doing great before the weekend. I hope that if "it takes a few days for your body to show up what you have done" that I'm not in for a horrible surprise come Thursday when I weigh myself.

What do you mean by track history?

by "track record" I meant that I dont know you, so i can only assume that you are eating well and exercising.

There are many people on his site who believe that starving themselves is the secret to losing weght, so without knowig you I cant tell you whether you were one of those people. Sometimes you need to be careful of assumptions here - you have probaby had that wth friends who tell you "good job" when actually you had a really unhealthy day but were under in calories.

So I dont mean it offensively, but a question like yours can have many answers, and by knowing you better we can give you a better assessment :)
