How important is it to you to get to atleast 1200 net calori

I'm asking this because if I workout hard, there is no way that I can get to 1200 net calories. Somedays, I have 200 net calories because I have burned more than 1000 calories. So today, I took it easy because I have been working out hard all week and this is the first time in a while that I can remember my net calories reaching anywhere near 1200.

I had a gain on the scale this week. I know that I made some poor eating choices throughout the week. I still try to eat healthy 90% of the time and "splurge" only 10% of the time. But I'm wondering if the scale would move more if I get my net calories closer to 1200 almost daily. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I don't worry about my net. Some days I am -500 or more. I try to get to 1200 a day and I know we're supposed to...but there are days when I only take in 750 or less.
I've had gains on the scale like you...and I eat healthy. it's normal. your body will release the calories when it releases the calories. it's frustrating. you have to take in 3500 a day to gain a pound from what I hear, so if there's a gain on the scale for you, it's because you had an entire pizza and a lot more or because you're retaining water or building muscle. relax...that's the hardest part.

I almost never have my net calories that high. For me, it depends on what I eat. Regardless of where my calories are, (within reason) I lose better if I keep my carbs and sugar fairly low and get enough protein... gotta feed those muscles when you work 'em hard, ya know??

You have some crazy big workouts though! I don't know how you do it!! :) Hope that helps a little. It is getting very hard for me to mae the scale move too. I think once you lose a bunch, it does that to most of us.

I posted about this the other day: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/193771-can-someone-look-at-my-last-5-days

Since then I have been right on or a little over my net. I don't have much to lose and I think by going under all the time I was doing myself more harm then good. When you exercise your body NEEDS fuel. Most MFP users will tell you to eat back your calories or most back anyway.

Most people eat back their calories because MFP already factors in a deficit for you so if you create one too then you will be under where you should be.

I can tell you from personal experience... My net calories used to be very low. And I never lost and often gained. It was bad. When I signed up for this site and realized how few calories I was really eating, I did some research and started eating smaller meals more frequently. I would work out and while I ATE 1200 calories a day, I still wasn't NETTING 1200 a day and in the first day or two I gained weight again. I did MORE research here and other various sites and found out that I should be NETTING 1200 calories a day and one I started doing THAT, I started dropping weight. It was crazy that I was eating more and losing weight, but that's how it worked. Now I always make sure I net 1200. In the 2-3 weeks I've been here I've lost 8 pounds. You wanted advice from experience, there it is. Eat 1200 net calories a day and it should help. It helped me.

For me, when Im as close to my Nett as possible i lose.
    And I feel GOOOOOOD!!

I dont really understand why people use this tool to help them lose weight, but dont follow the recommendations..
Clearly the way a lot of peoples eating habits/beliefs/feelings about food have been has got them to the place they are in now.
So why not give this a go, when it is so helpful to a lot of people.

And if you eat regularly throughout the day, its not that hard to eat back a lot of the exercise calories with good foods..

it is for me when i burn 700 or more some days and I eat 3 meals 2 snacks everyone is different so what works for one is not maybe going to work for someone else I see it alot on here that people saying same I am and if u r trying to lose the whole point is more calories out than in and if u really think about someone like me doing nothing all day my body burns 2700 cal a day and if I eat 1200 then would I not always be in the negative

I've noticed that too. The more I loose, the harder it is to get 1 pound off.

There's nothing magic about the number 1200 - that number came from a study done on adult males. Just make sure that the KIND of calories you're eating are giving you the right nutrition. LOTS of protein (especially because you work out a lot) and low glycemic index foods. If you're staying under 1200, avoid breads, pastas, white flour/rice, carrots, ripe bananas (green ones are ok), and especially sugar. Don't totally avoid fat, your body needs it - just make sure it's not accompanied by bread or sugar. Consider some nutritional supplements to make sure you're getting enough of the good stuff.

No one can say that they "never" eat more than 1200 net calories, because SOMEHOW we all got to this overweight (or obese for some!) point in our lives!

Stay within the range of your MFP calorie goals, and you'll be just fine. I've been both below and under by up to 300 calories sometimes, and I'm still losing steadily. Don't stress it!

1200 did not come from a study on adult men. 1200 is the intake recommended by WHO as the minimum for the average adult woman to maintain necessary nutrition levels (the number is 1500 for men). Some VERY small women can go under that, and some will need more. It is very difficult to obtain adequate macros and micros with less than 1200.

no one said they did not eat 1200 we said we do not net1200 with exercise so there is a difference and to me the whole eating them back there will be one group saying no one saying yes I think what ever works for the person is the best for them not what a study thinks is best

its not..every ones body is different..you dont go into starvation mode like some people think, its a myth. the whole 1200 cal myth started because its more common for people to be hungry if they dont eat at least 1200 cals a day..meaning if you are more likely to binge on food.

if you feel full there is no sense in stuffing yourself. in the end you'll make yourself miserable. the more food on your stomach the more likely you will want to lay around and be lazy. listen to your body. there are no set rules for this, unlike how some people tend to believe.

Only you can answer how important it is. For me it is very important, but then again I have a healthy relationship with food and use food to drive my workouts.

The specific recommendation came from the 1985 report from WHO/FAO, but I couldn't find a link to that report that would work. But here are some subsequent reports from FAO that refer to the 1985 conclusions. While they have expanded the way they calculate requirements and no longer give a specific number for "average" necessary intake, they have actually INCREASED the recommendations since the 1985 reports, recognizing that the previous recommendation of 1200 may allow survival for a short period but is not an acceptable intake for long-term health for the average adult woman. They now use a recommendation that looks at "optimal health", maintaining a healthy BMI, rather than simple survival. Look for the parts that discuss "baseline energy need" and "survival requirement". Basically, they don't recommend an intake under BMR at all, even as survival intake in the 1985 report.

    http://www.fao.org/docrep/003/aa040e/aa040e06.htm

    ftp://ftp.fao.org/docrep/fao/007/y5686e/y5686e00.pdf

(As a side note, their definition of an average woman is 5'4", 121 lbs, 25 yrs old.)

At any rate, it is generally accepted in the medical community that a regular intake of less 1200 should not be attempted by anyone (even the morbidly obese) without consistent medical supervision that ensures proper nutrition meeting macro and micro needs.

You did. This is a direct quote of yours, a few posts up: "I never net 1200" - which is impossible - eating 1200 net calories a day wouldn't result in you trying to lose 150lbs (as per your profile!). But please, some grammar would go a long way!!

Some day's my net calories are right around 1,200. Other days it's around 100 ha. I don't pay much attention to it.

I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. If I am hungry, I'll eat a little more or have a snack between. But I'm not going to force myself to eat just for the sake of reaching some number.
