i do it at the gym and it seems the only way to know is with a heart rate monitor. you can usually burn anywhere from 500-1000 cals in an hour. it is SO much fun!!!

I log it under "Dancing, aerobic, ballet or modern, twist" It is a little more modest than what Zumba lists but I rather under estimate than overestimate. It's great exercise though, and so much fun!

I start mid-April. I can't wait! My best friend and I have a goal to eventually wear matching mesh tops like in most of the viddies on YouTube. lol

I've done Zumba for two plus years now. I use an HRM and burn about 400 calories per 45 minutes. Much depends on your fitness level.

I love zumba... if you dont have a HRM i would log it as Aerobic - High Impact. This worked out the same as my HRM to within 5 Cals. =]

Best way is probably to use a HRM but I log it as aerobic dancing, I have been doing the 20 min workout for about a wk and I love it. I plan to do the full workout on wknds

I use a HRM. Sometimes, I burn over 700 cals an hour, sometimes, like tonight, I only burned 335 in about 35 minutes. I didn't work too hard tonight.. lol

I am a zumba-holic and zumba 3-4X a week. In class. I tried the DVDs but didn't like them as much as the class. I would like the Wii game but look too expensive.

I love zumba but I never feel like I'm burning that many calories. Don't get me wrong, I definitely build up a sweat but I feel like spinning or step aerobics is more calorie blasting. Am I wrong? I don't own a heart rate monitor. I'm just judging it by how I feel. I feel like I only burn like 350-450 calories.

Zumba is by far my favorite workout! I have been doing it for almost 2 years now and love it! You are working out but it doesn't feel like you are! I use a HRM watch to accurately track calories. I burn usually an average of 700-800 calories in an hour!

I agree...the DVDs are NOTHING like a live class! I LOVE zumba. I've been doing it on and off for about a year now, but one of my friends recently became a zumba instructor so I'm going to her class every week now. She lost about 60 lbs and zumba was pretty much the only exercising she did...but she did it for about 4 hours a week.
