Hey girl! You should TOTALLY try Zumba! It is so much fun so I never realize when the hour is up and then when I look to see how many calories I have burned (I use a bodybugg) I am always crazy surprised at the awesome workout I got. I also am smiling the whole time. Its good for body AND soul lol, Just dont give up after the first class because once you go a few times you will get familiar with the steps and it will be easier. I promise not one lady in there was awesome the first day. Most people who go to the class have at least gone a few times. Dont be hard on yourself or feel stupid. You will love it if ya stick to it. :D Happy Dancing!

Of course you should try an exercise class that looks like fun. Why wouldn’t we want to have fun while working out? I try to pop into a zumba class once a week, because I find it a great release and shake up from my normal routine. It’s like popping into a club for an hour and shaking it on the dance floor. Trust me that people are too busy concentrating on their own workout to bother worrying about what anyone else is doing. Go. Try it. You may fall in love. If not, you’ll still get a good workout in.

I am just starting to do Zumba. I know that dance is probably the most motivating exercise for me. I am at the stage that I can't do everything perfectly or quickly but most of these classes stress to do what you can and the others everyone is just concentrating on doing it themselves. Plus it is so good for us to challenge our coordination. It is good for our minds to do new "moves" as well as our bodies. Go for it and have some fun.

GO!!! It is FUN! You will not feel like you are working out! If you get frustrated by the movements, just do your own thing. I'm a Certified Zumba Instructor and when I go to other classes you can find me in the back--doin' my own thing! I love to dance and the music is great!

I would definitely give it a try! I am a huge klutz and I doubt you're worse than me! The first time I tried it, I tripped over my own feet and fell down. The second time, I bumped into people on both sides of me. The third time...I neither fell down nor bumped into anyone. Then it started being FUN :)

It also got easier when I started learning the music and understood that all the steps and moves were for 4 or 8 beats...helps me keep up with the instructor a bit better now.

Let us know what you think after you try it.

Well, I just wandered over to this topic because I've been considering hitting a Zumba class at my gym, and was curious what the responses would be. You've all talked me into giving it a go, and I wasn't even the one who started the thread, lol.

I say you should definitely do it. Its a mix of different dances. You dont need any rhythm to enjoy it and burn lots of calories. Once you get the hang of it youll be dancing like its nobodys business. Ive done zumba in a class setting and home. Its a really fun way to exercise. HAVE FUN!!!!

Zumba is fun, you should try it.

IMHO many of the moves are VERY ridiculous and stupid that do not much for exercising, but as mentioned by most users here, if you go with friends, or to learn some dancing moves it will be fun.

I would never let any of my students see me doing that though... and some of the songs are a little bit (or VERY) silly... :P
Don't take me wrong, I still do it twice a week to get some variety in my workouts, and to challenge my coordination.

Okay yall have convinced me to go try Zumba, I was wondering myself how it was. There are gyms all over were I live with signs for Zumba. I have a Wii so I think I will go and pick the game up first to get myself comfortable with it. Thanks ladies...

If you want you can go on YouTube and try a bit before class. Here is my list of links for a beginner:
Zumba YouTube Workout 1 hour. One of these links teaches you some basic moves. The problem for me is the down load time so definitely go to a class.

Yes, you should go, go go!!! It's great! I've been going on Saturday's for a couple of months, and I look forward to it all week. i would go more if the classes fit into my schedule; but alas, I have to settle for Saturdays!

My mom even goes wtih me sometimes. She is 65 and not coordinated at all! My daughter went with me this spring break, and she is a dancer. It's for everyone! Our instructor even tells us if we are going one way and the class is going the other to just wave as they pass you. Just keep moving, and you'll be fine. The music is great.

Don't give up if you feel awkward the first time. It's taken me all this time to really get into moving and being more free. But I love it, and after reading all of these comments, I think you will too!

    Have fun!

I have been doing Zumba for about 6wks now. I love it! I will tell you what my zumba instructor told me my first class, work on the footwork first then add the arms and hips. It is seriously the most fun i've had working out. I actually look forward to the days I go to class.

I have NO, ZIP, ZILCH beat! I have a hard time remembering left from right! I'm very uncoordinated about moving my feet and arms at the same time. Haven't tried Zumba (YET) But I have been doing a group groove class...it's takes a few times to figure it out. GO and have FUN with it!!!!!!

Zumba is a great work out and fun! I don't even realize I'm burning so many calories! Just remember "keep moving" that is what my instructor says...as long as your moving your burning calories!

I love Zumba! My husband bought the DVD set off the infomercial for me as a late Christmas present. I am 1000% uncoordinated, but when I'm in my living room by myself in my sports bra and shorts, I feel sexy and forget the extra little rolls that I'm working off! Definitely a good workout - there are some classes in my area and I fully intend to hit one of them soon! I say you should absolutely go
