Early vs. Late, Carbs vs. Protein

I've read in some posts (or maybe it was just implied/inferred) that it's better to eat most of your carbs in the early part of the day and most of your proteins in the evening/later part of the day....or vice versa. Can anyone shed any enlightenment on this concept? Many thanks! :)

I was told that same thing by a PT. The way it was explained to me is how your body processes carbs vs. protein. She said that even fruit late at night is bad b/c of how it is broken down in the body. You are better off having an ounce of low-fat cheese.
Sorry I don't have the exact answer, but hopefully am reassuring! I personally started trying it with my husband and we both have lost weight from it! (No carbs after 4pm.)

This is such a conflicting topic, and you really need to dig deep to find answers.

I read that eating protein earlier on will keep you fuller during the day, THEN, if you eat carbs later at night, they will help you "crash" and settle for bed.

I've also read, that you should eat carbs earlier on for energy and fuel, and then eat protein later on to rebuild while you sleep.

Personally, I eat my carbs at night because they definitely knock me out. And I'm talking about complex carbs, like beans and oatmeal. I don't really eat white rice and breads because I don't like them. (Thank god, because these and sugar are the worst culprits for belly fat!)

Just read the arguments, and try both out, and just do whatever makes you feel best. Everyone is different :)

  • The idea behind carbs in the morning is really only that for the first 30 minutes or so that you are awake is when your blood sugar is the lowest so your body needs the sugar and can process it the quickest... at least that is what my dietician told me.. after that you want to go higher protein for longer lasting hunger control. You should not really be eating anything within the 2 hours before you go to bed..so neither should really affect your sleep.
