I just got home from my orthopedic specialist....and got news that the Baker Cyst that ruptured in my knee was caused by arthritis....my problem is after walking for a continous 10 to 15 minutes my knee locks and there isn't much they can do for it. Got a cortozone shot...but I am wondering if I go to the gym and just do the treadmill and bike at a slow level any chance it could help with weight loss. Going to do it to keep my joints moving...but sad that I can't do a real workout!

Do you have access to a pool? If so, I would suggest that not only for low impact but also for nice burn. I would think that slowing down on a treadmill might prolong the time before it becomes unbearable, but I don't think it would prevent it.
  • Try water aerobics!!

Does your gym have a pool? I highly recommend swimming or even a water aerobics if you feel more comfortable with that. Swimming will provide cardio without any impact.

They tell me that it does. My rheumatologist told me the last time I saw her that I might need a knee replacement, so I can't do anything too strenuous either. Many people who have arthritis use the elliptical trainer at the gym, but it just didn't seem right for me. If your gym has one, you might try it set at the lowest possible setting. From what I can tell, it really burns calories fast. Oh, and be careful to have the setting correct on your bike. If it isn't right, it can make your knees hurt worse. Believe me, I learned that one by experience! Hopefully there'll be an expert at the gym who can help you, too.

I am a big fan of water aerobics, ask your doctor if they approve and you can get some exercise that way. Wishing you a speedy full recovery!
