Help! Husband makes it hard...

It's hard for me to make healthy meal choices because he almost refuses to eat veggies! He's getting better, but they've got to be boiled to the point of mushiness. I've made the green giant side servings for myself before, and I'm perfectly ok continuing to do this, but I'd like him to eat healthy as well. I mean, it's CONSTANTLY "Can you make potatos?" I'm carbed out. I don't know how to handle it. I really want him to eat healthier as well, because I see how he eats, I cook for him. He's pretty active at work, he works in a carpet store moving them and such, so it's a pretty manual job, but I still worry. We are both the heaviest we've ever been (Me at 5'9 190 and him at 5'7 190). He wants to lose weight too, and if I could just make him eat salads or something I know I could make it so much easier on both of us But no veggies. He won't even eat apples because he doesn't like "the texture".
Any ideas? I am taking control of my loss because it's important for me. I'm not going to stay fluffy because HE won't eat healthy. But it's really a pain making meals that aren't that healthy, aren't really on program. Meh, maybe I'm just frustrated

It sounds like it's time for him to learn how to cook! My guy knows that if there is something he is craving, he will have to be the one to cook it up. I can also tell when there are some dinners where he is less than enthralled with my healthy-gourmet effort. Those dinners are the ones where he asks "Is this good for me?" with the unspoken followup being: "...because it tastes very "good-for-me." :ohwell:0

My husband is the same way when it comes to eating healthy. Try veggies with toppings. Like a sweet potatoe with brown sugar & cinnamon, or green giants steamed veggies with cheese. Try adding different things he likes into the veggies. Hope this helps.0

You can't change his eating habits, he has to want to on his own.
Tell him that there is currently a potato crisis in the world and you can no longer get them.
I would say he needs to cook his own, but being in a home where I do the cooking I understand. I make certain things my hubby wants but do not partake in them and make something healthier for myself.

Make him some cauliflower mashed potatoes. If you do half potatoes and half cauliflower you can't even tell the difference. Trust me...I am about the pickiest eater ever!0

I actually saw a cauliflower crusted pizza that I thought about sneaking in on him. When I was a vegetarian I had to sneak tofu in on him all the time. He loved it, still eats it to this day.
WEIRDO. He'll eat soggy tofu but not crunchy veggies? UGH!0 -
Thankfully my hubby likes veggies but he's not too fond of whole grains or low fat meats/cheeses. My solution to this has been to gradually make changes. He might balk at first or ask questions like "why is that spaghetti so brown?" but by the time I cook it and put everything together, he's pretty happy for the most part. My problem is when he's on his own during the day and makes horrible choices for lunch. But there's not a whole lot I can do about that besides make little suggestions now and then. When he's ready to change, he knows he can come to me for support and help.
The only thing I've heard very strong opposition to was fat free cheese - and I ended up completely agreeing with him. When that stuff melts it's like plastic - gross!0 -
I think what frustrates me the most is I know the majority of MY issues with his eating habits are because of his parents. He's fixated on soda. When he was a kid, he'd drink like 2 liters a day. I'm talking like 10 years old. I wasn't allowed to have soda until I was 16 and I was only allowed diet and like, 1 20oz a day. Period. Now I'm trying to combat a 23 year old, set in his ways, because his parents didn't value his health. UGH SERIOUSLY.
I think I may try the cauliflower potatoes though, my mom used to make them and I loved them.0 -
Yeah, I made 400caloriesorless.com lasagna with fat free cheese and it was ridiculously plastic!!! I used it on the top and he was like "WHAAAAT IT ON TOP OF THIS!" We had to use steak knives to cut through it!0

both my wife and i started, working out and eating right in December 2010, you have to find what you like that is healthy and the other finds what they like that is healthy, then make the choice to buy those items, her downfall was regular Cokes, but she prevailed and beat that addiction, the biggest problem was getting BOTH OF US TO THE RIGHT HEALTHY THING..can't be one or the other..that's been my failure all the time..LOVE PEACE HAPPINESS AND HEALTH..we been together for 35 years and heading to the next 350

wish I could help. what is it that he doesn't like about veggies? can you cut down the carbs with some substitutions? Like half mashed potato and half mashed celeriac? (that's not too carby, is it?)

My husband is same way. I decided to simply start making healthier meals whether he liked it or not, and he started to
bring home take out that I used to love eating, still do, but i don't want to eat so much junk anymore. I complained a lot a the beginning, the more a did, the more food he would bring home. So I stop making comments about it and let him eat whatever he wanted. That was when it started to get a little better, he somewhat felt jealous(i think) of my new healthy style and came around. As long as I make some sort of sauce for his veggies he will eat it. He still bring fried chicken and Chinese food but nothing like before. The hardest for me was to ignore the goodies he used to bring me everyday. My favorite candy bar(kinder bueno), it was worthed though.0
