Since starting MFP 3 weeks ago I have only lost 1 pound and 1.5 inches. I keep hearing stories of people dropping crazy weight within the first couple of weeks, what's wrong with me? I stay within my calories each day, I drink tons of water, I get good sleep each night, I work out 3-4 days a week for 45 mins each workout and do cardio and muscle training. I really need to drop 25 pounds by June of next year and at this rate I don't think it's going to happen. Does anyone have any ideas I could try?

do you eat your exercise calories???? i am a slow loser also. when i eat my exercise calories i drop 1 to 2 pounds a week, when i don't i don't lose. i normally have to have less than 200 calories left a day to lose. it does take adjustments to find the right mix for you.
great job on the pound. that's one pound closer and not on you. when you get to the end and try to take off that last pound, you will be thankful for the pound that is gone now.

Have you been drinking water? I wasn't losing mush the first few weeks, and then I dumped the diet soda and started drinking water or crystal light, and finally the weight started coming off.
Everyone on here always says drink water, and I don't know the science behind it, but it worked for me. I have only one diet soda a day, if at all. (Most days )0 -
I do drink a significant amount of water but I also drink 2-3 diet sodas a day. Why does that hinder weight loss if it doesn't have any calories and I drink 8 glasses of water a day with it?0

It could be the sodium or aother contents making you retain fluids. When I gave up soda altogether I dropped about 10 pounds. Now I have a diet rootbeer once or twice a week to get my fill but that's it. You might try giving up the soda for a week or so and see if it helps.0

25lbs seems like alot but alot of people that lose weight faster are a little heavier (no offense) and have alot more to lose- dont get discouraged by other peoples losses everyone loses differently some people lose inches before pounds- keep doing what your doing and it will come off- just remember the weight didnt come on over night so it will not come off over night too it is a process0 -

Well you have 26 lbs. to lose...the folks you may be thinking of that are losing bigger numbers each week may have 100lbs to lose, makes all the difference in the world. If someone loses a ton right off the bat, it's almost guaranteed to be water weight....not fat....still nice to have lbs. off but I wouldn't worry to much about what everyone else is losing as long as you're eating all your cals. Eating your excercise cals as well....and keeping in mind this is not a race or a competion but a lifestyle change toward getting healthier.:flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks for all of your help so far. I have another question. Several of you have asked if I'm eating all of my exercise calories as well. I'm not sure what that means. According to my calorie counter I can have 1230 calories a day and workout 3 days a week for an hour each workout and theoretically lose one pound a week but I'm not sure what you guys are talking about. Are exercise calories included in your daily caloric limit? Or is this something else?0

You need to enter in your exercise; MFP will then add those calories back into your daily allowance to ensure you are eating enough to remain healthy while losing weight.
Also, one reason you aren't losing much could be you are already eating too little. Given the small amount you wish to lose and your age, you should not be eating just over 1200 calories a day. That is a too little for most people and should only be resorted to by those with a lot to lose who are under doctor's care. You need to reset your goals to aim to lose no more than 1/2 pound a week MAX. It is going to take time for you but you must be patient.
