Stevia

I've considered buying Stevia but the largest bags I've seen are quite small and expensive. I'm aware that Stevia is MUCH sweeter than regular sugar, so I thought i'd ask for others who use Stevia: How much Stevia does a cup of coffee need to taste good? I'm assuming much less than table sugar or Splenda because it's so much sweeter? Thanks.

Depends on how it's packaged. We use the packets the same way you'd use sugar. If you used to use 2 packets of sugar, then 2 packets of Stevia is about equivelant.
If it's too expensive, you might want to look into growing your own. Google for stevia plants (shopping):

I'm going today to a local nursery to pickup a Stevia plant they are holding for me!0

I was actually considering growing it too. But, I've heard that Stevia is really difficult to grow.0

I bought a box of Stevia about 2 weeks ago. Did not like the taste at all. It left sort of a "cotton mouth" feeling.0

I use liquid stevia (which is harder to find- I get it at Whole Foods) and I only need a few drops in a cup of coffee. If you can find liquid stevia it's great- a little bottle lasts a long time so it's worth the price- and most granulated stevis options (truvia, purevia, stevia in the raw) have maltodextrin which is not good.0

I LOVE Stevia products. I thought stevia was cup for cup though... not sure. Stevia is expensive but I think it's worth the money and I'm on a very tight budget. Is it possible for you to ween yourself off the amount in your coffee?0

Actually, I don't like my coffee that sweet. I can drink it black and be fine, but it's not as enjoyable as having a touch of sweetness. I don't drink coffee too often, but I'd also like to have a healthier alternative to table sugar around incase I need it for something.0 -
It depends on where you get the stevia from!! If you are getting it off the grocery store isles (Truvia, Pruvia, Stevia In the Raw etc) you are not using pure stevia. These are chemically modified and packaged with fillers and additives, and generally equate 1 packet to 2 tsp. of sugar. If you are getting the stevia from the suppliment/vitamin area or store and it is LABELED as a suppliment (always check the package) you will more than likely be getting the pure(-er) stevia. The packets in the box I have are not marked as to the equivalent in sugar sweetness, but as near as I can tell (from taste tests) it is equal to 4-5 tsp per packet. The suppliment labeled box was the same price as the ones from the grocery store, but it has TWICE the amount of packets....at 4-5 tsp per packet... this box will last me a year!0
