OBSESSIVE WEIGHING

Ok so I usually weigh in on a Friday but I had a disaster of a week this week, I'd say I just about maintained my weight. The problem is the worse I feel the more I weigh myself, multiple times a day and it drives me MAD! This week I'm setting myself a challenge and that is, after I weigh in tomorrow morning I WILL NOT weigh myself again until Friday! If anything to save my sanity!Anyone else have this problem and want to join me in my non scale week?

I'm with you all the way! I hate the fact that my day can be dominated by a number.....when it most likely isn't an actual weight gain!0
-
I know!As I said it's making me go mad!I'm actually looking forward to my no scale week!0
-
would someone please talk to my wife about this.
she is obsessed.0 -
I had that problem when I wasn't doing as well as I thought I should or I had a bad day of eating...or just overall bad day. I kept weighing myself on different scales at different places. It was bad. I even weighed myself at the vet. Sheesh.
Good luck to you. That scale can be a monster.0 -
I had become so crazy with it (5-6 times a day) a different weight every time. And I know weight fluctuates all day long, but I would still get FRUSTRATED over the variances. I think it is part of the reason I plateaued for a while. I finally decided about 6 weeks ago to go to a once a month weigh in. It has helped tremendously by taking the pressure off. It also makes me feel much better when I see a large # at one time as opposed to small increments once a week. :happy:0

I'm with you! With my weekend binges that I've started lately, I haven't been able to stop myself from weighing every morning and even once or twice during the day. I used to weigh only once a week, and I need to do that again! It was a lot less stressful.0
-
I am SO glad I'm not the only crazy person haha! At the vet?that is bad!haha! Hope I can actually stop doing it now, it's a bit of an addiction really!0
-
I do it many times a day everyday! As long as you realize it does fluctuate I really don't see the harm. Sometimes I flip the bird to the scale and all is well!! :laugh:0
-
I weigh myself EVERY morning while naked before getting in the shower. I don't weigh again until the next morning. I'm happy doing this! Whatever floats your boat!0
-
lets all hide our scales and just use a measuring tape to do waist and hip measurements....but maybe that wouldn't be better.:ohwell:0

my weigh scales are broken and I am not sure if its better or worse as now using wii fit to weight myself but not so convincing as you can cheat a couple of kilo's i think i am putting weight on as now i dont weigh myself every morning to program myself mentally for the rest of the day..so ahhhh what shoud i do..???0

There's no point in weighing yourself after you have eaten or drunk anything, or you're weighing your food and water!
Having said that, I weigh myself first thing every morning - but I do NOT take any notice of any individual weight, that's a mugs game.
The reason is that my weight fluctuates by a pound or even two from day to day, so I enter each morning's weight in an spreadsheet, then look at the general trend on a graph. I used to weigh myself once a week, but found this gave a misleading picture, and I once ended up very discouraged when I thought I'd not lost any weight for two weeks running, whereas in fact I had lost weight.
Then again, I'm only losing at most a pound a week, if you're losing several pounds a week or even more, a weekly weigh would be plenty to give a reasonable measure of progress.0 -
I'm in!0

Me and a friend was just talking about this ...she is SUPER obsessed with the scale!!! Im gonna tell her to join you in hiding the scale for a week. Me myself I think weighing in once a week is jus fine0
-
Whew... me too. I have been weighing myself every morning for the last 7 years. And what ever that # is on the scale would start my day and run my day. It was my judgement of what to eat and what to do. If it was up it set my mood for the day which was in the slumps. If it was down I convience myself I deserved to have that treat of whatever it was... The scale is a monster and I'm game... I'll weigh in the morning and put it up for a week. Fridays will be my weigh in... I think. :ohwell:0

I do the same thing and some days I am good with it and some days I am not because that # decides my day... Every morning. Is that good or bad; can depend on the person. It works for some and not for others.0 -
I do realise weight fluctuates and often the number I see is not really what I am but even still it just feels very discouraging, I feel like if I concentrate less on a number this week and more on what I'm eating I'll feel better0

LOL - I do this exact same thing! It works for me. I only "log" my weight once a week in here though, and I don't beat myself up too much when it goes up and down during the overall week. So many things can influence day to day weight! Remember, even small losses count towards the goal!0 -
I do the same thing, it drives me mad. Im trying to go back to once a week, but its so hard. i feel like i have plateaued because the number on the scale is not changing, i still have 28 pounds to go, any advice or am i going to have to invest in a stray jacket????0

Weigh yourself once a month.....or not at all....your're invovled and Obessive compulsive behavior....go by how you look and feel don't be a slave to a number....that's crazy...what could happen is... if you lose weight than you give yourself permission to maybe eat extra or eat a bad choice if you've gainned you may still eat because your depressed that you gainned...lose/lose situation
There is more to life than a scale and a number, get out there and live it. I think most people can feel when they lose or gain and weight is so much a perspective thing like age, people never believe my weigh or my age,,,,luckily they always think I look lighter which isn't light at all by the way and look younger.
I have had a lot of experience with this believe me.....you need to live your life, eat healthy, excercise, concentate on friends, family, school, work NOT A NUMBER ON THE SCALE
on side note, it also has to do with immediate gratifcation....seeing the lost pounds...but your not going to see 5 or 10 pounds or weight ever your goal is in one day.
Good Luck!0 -

Oh wow, thank you so much for the advice, thats exactly what was happening to me, if i lost some weight i was giving myself permission to eat a little more but i gained weight i was feeling so sad and depressed that i started to eat anyway. OMG you just explained what was happened to me0 -
I will totally join you starting when I weigh tomorrow! I am horrible about weight 4 or 5 times a day and I KNOW better lol0
-
I had the same problem. I put my weigh scale out of sight - in the linen closet. I will get it back out on Mothers Day. There, now I have committed to that. Remember 1 cup of water weighs 1/2 a pound.
If you have to, give your scale to a trusted friend. The problem is that you lose a pound and are elated but then you gain it back and you want to quit. But if you give yourself one month to get things going and keep to a steady eating and exercise change, you can see if you need to adjust it based on real data, not just a drink of water or less salt the day before that changes things a tiny bit.
Talk to you May 8th!0 -
I started my WL journey two months ago. I weigh-in once an week, but have been so discouraged because I have not "lost" any weight for 5 straight weeks.
BUT, I measured myself the other day (just started last month measuring) and was 1/2" smaller in my hips/thighs/calfs (I wish it was my belly area, but oh well). And, I was able to fit into a new pair of jeans a size smaller and hubby says my face looks a lot thinner.
So I am learning that it is not about the number on the scale which was totes depressing me, it's other factors too and that the exercise I've been doing is paying off. I'd gained muscle from it which caused the scale not to budge. But now I'm like, ok when are the pounds going to shed, I have enough muscle!
I have to agree with Jane1320 and wish I had seen that post a few weeks ago and not gotten so frustrated.0 -
I am definitely going to start only weighing myself once a week. I was up TWO lbs this morning, but had done so well yesterday. It was so discouraging. It made me feel like my efforts weren't worth it. Which I know isn't true. It also made me not want to eat anything today. Very unhealthy.
So, yes. I'm on board with weighing in only once a week!0 -
thanks for adding me!I think I did a bit better last week weighed myself every second day Id say, it's just a habit, I know it's not helping me, I don't get really down about it or anything Id just prefer not to rely on it for results every single day!0

I just don't see it this way, but realize that some people do. It's just fun for me to see what the scale says every morning. I gradually have watched myself lose 8 lbs in just a few weeks. I have never allowed myself extra food. I wouldn't because I'm on a roll and want to keep it that way. Also, if the number is up a bit, I don't care! Doesn't make me sad. I know that it's going to be several months to get to my goal weight.0
