How much sugar??

So, I long ago worked out that the reason I have piled on the pounds is because of the sudden and vast increase in the amount of sugar I am consuming. My staple diet is sound, can't fault it much, but what do midwives use as fuel? Sweets, and biscuits, and chocolate, and white bread etc. I was also gutted to need my first tooth filling this year. I decided only last week I had to cut out all that artifcial sugar if I'm ever going to be successful in shifting some weight. And I have. But I also decided to to watch my sugar intake on my daily food diary and I'm shocked to find how little is "recommended." You have 3 pieces of fresh fruit and a measure of 1% milk and you've used more than your daily allowance. Never mind any complex carbohydrates you might want to eat, or heaven forbid you drink some fruit juice (and I never have from concentrate, only ever freshly squeezed). Am I being ridiculous looking at this or is it something I need to monitor?? :ohwell:

As long as you're hitting your carbs/protein/fats goals and staying at your daily caloric goal, it's okay.

Yeah, I'm always under my calorie and fat goals and pretty much hitting carbs and protein. Also monitoring iron levels. But the sugar thing is clearly impossible . Why is the limit so low?

I've always lived by the rule: natural sugar from fruit: eat whatever. (unless you're a diabetic). table sugar: limit.
