I'm going to a wedding tonight and I'm afraid I might eat and drink a lot more calories than I should. Should I eat smaller meals earlier today to prepare for tonight? Also, I don't drink very much at all. Should I limit my number of drinks to like one? How would you guys eat at a wedding while on your weight loss journey?

POrtion and control are key. Plan your day to take in a few extra calories later. Enjoy yourself and have fun. Just work harder tomorrow!!!

I'm going to a wedding tonight as well.

I'm planning on sampling everything I want, but I will watch my potion size.

Enjoy the wedding... tomorrow is another day to succeed.

Depends on how bad you want to reach your goal. Alcohol has calories so you make a decision drink and take longer to reach my goal or not drink and eat a little more. I just make sure my calorie intake is 1250 per day. On days I want to splurge I exercise more. It's all a math game to me. I would rather chew calories than drink them.

Everything in moderation. Eat a nice solid meal before you attend the wedding so you won't over eat. Other than that enjoy your night. Don't stress over one night of having a good time. You have to be realistic in your journey. Treat tomorrow as any other day. Do your routine as normal.

I'm going to a bachelorette party and I'm saying, "Screw the calories" tonight. :drinker:

I'm eating healthy for breakfast and lunch, exercising my bum off as usual, but once we're in the limo, all bets are off.

I know that's not the most health conscious choice, but one night of debauchery isn't going to undo the past few months. Back on track tomorrow.

Not many times in life you get to celebrate . Enjoy the wedding and eat and drink. Just do not over do it. Tomorrow begin your diet again. Congrats to newlyweds to be and good luck.

+2...I'm in New Orleans right now. How many calories do you THINK I've had in alcohol and good southern food by now... :) I've been so good these last few weeks, these couple days won't derail me personally.
  • Thanks everyone! I'm just going to prepare earlier today with exercise and smaller meals and once I get there be responsible but still enjoy myself and celebrate.

Sherbog- I agree. I would definitely rather eat my calories then drink them too.

Plan your day for tonight eating smaller for lunch and Breakfast. Exercise like a mad person. so you have extra room and try not to go over to much if at all. Eat salad with dinner and veggies.
Enjoy yourself its not like you go to a wedding everyday. One meal isnt going to ruin anything its just making the best choices when you can and when you cant portion control is key

It depends. If it's a sit down meal v a buffet, in a place with easily accessible plumbing, etc.. (I've been to some odd weddings?)

However, if it's got standard plumbing and a buffet, then, drink a lot of water (since people will be popping up and down to get nibbles, it won't be awkward to be popping up and down a lot.) Exercise more today, then have something low cal and filling (spinach salad? apples? fiber bar and fruit? oatmeal?) before going to the wedding. That way you can enjoy tastes and not be too hungry to moderate.

EXACTLY!!!! If you can't celebrate special occasions with loved ones from time to time, you are DIEting, not changing your LIFEstyle. I had two showers, two birthdays, and getting ready for graduation (made 400+ cakeballs) last weekend, which left little time for exercise. But I spent the whole weekend with my brothers and their families. Did I gain some weight? Yes. Have I lost it by getting back on track this week? Yes.

Go and enjoy!!!! Maybe take an extra walk earlier today so you burn some of those extra calories. Above all, remember that tomorrow is a new day. Life is too short not to enjoy special moments like this.

When I go out to eat, I watch out for foods cooked in sauces - they usually contain a lot of sugars. Then I go for vegetables (salad, mixeded veggies, sides, raw) and meats. I go easy on the dressing. I watch out for fruity drinks - again, higher sugars. If the drinks, breads, cookies, cake, etc. are too tempting, I'll eat some once I've filled up on healthier stuff and drank plenty of water. :) I think it's great to eat with awareness - that's what makes it a "lifestyle" change. It doesn't mean you can't still have fun!

    My tips would be:

    - Eat a smaller lunch so that you have maybe half your daily calories left for the evening.
    - Eat a high-protein (filling, low-calorie) snack right before so that you aren't famished.
    - At the event, eat like a thin, fit person would eat. That is, small portions, avoid or only sample the most high-caloric stuff but don't eschew a once-in-a-lifetime dessert should one be on offer. Also, I'd limit drinking as alcohol calories are insidious and completely empty.

Remember, it's not what you do tonight that makes you heavy or light - it what you do the other 364 days of the year.
