Fair Calorie burn?

Hi all, I was wondering if you would give me your opinion....

My mom and I walked around the mall and Wal-Mart today doing some Easter/Birthday/Grocery shopping. We were gone for about 7 hours and of that 7 we only sat for about 20 minutes to eat a subway. But it was clothes shopping and groceries so it was a lot of walking with some stopping. I logged about 180 minutes (3 hours) of "walking 2.0mph" for a 539 burn. Do you think that is a fair amount or is it too high/low?

thanks for your help!

  • I personally don't count shopping as walking - even though I know it is a LOT of walking! I only count purposeful exercise walking. But, to be safe - just take half the calories as calories earned. Looks like your losing weight - so whatever you are doing is working! Good job!
  • MFP give estimates of Cals burned. It could be more or it could be less. How many you burned depends on how hard your heart worked during the activity.

I would recommend a good heart rate monitor with a chest strap to measure your calories burned during exercise.
Of coarse they can be wrong at times too.
And they aren't meant for all day use.

    Hope this helped
