cooking meat

Does the length of time you cook meat affect how many calories it has? For example, I like beef to be very rare and often just sear it 1 min per side. Am I eating more or less calories than my husband, who cooks the same beef 7 min a side? Or are we eating the same amount?

there are likely less calories as you cook it more, I imagine some fats and other things drain off as you cook it longer. I can't imagine, however, the difference is very much. Try to weigh your meat prior to cooking, and go by that number.

Good question, I don't have the answer, except to make an assumption that cooking it a bit longer gets rid of some of the fat in it and it might be a bit healthier for you (calorie wise). I'm looking forward to hearing the correct answer to your question

I've always believed that cooking will reduce the number of calories in food. To put it in simple reasoning terms: we need to 'burn' food for energy in our cells - so if we 'burn' (i.e. cook) the food before we eat it, there's less energy for us to use once the food has been consumed.

However, I'm not sure about the extent to which the calorific content is decreased. It's probably not worth counting...
