Maybe the scale is wrong :(

I am beginning to think that maybe my scale is wrong. NO ONE has said anything about my weight loss, no co workers, no friends, no boyfriend. I thought that 18lbs was big enough to tell but maybe not?? How long did it take before people started noticing your weight loss???

No one has said a word about mine either
Are you measuring with a tape because the scale can be wrong and inches can't really be wrong.
Maybe people just don't want to insult us by telling us we look like we have lost weight meaning we needed to lose it in the first place until they see we are down A LOT and know it won't be back so they don't have to feel like jerks?0 -
25 lbs.... So basically I have been going at this since December and people just started noticeing last week! Keep up to good work! People will notice!0
-
Oh that stinks! I think when you're as big as we are that you have to lose 30lbs + to really have anyone notice. Also, if you're wearing big baggy clothes it's hard to tell. Keep it up!0
-
You are doing great! Are you wearing the same clothes??? When you wear baggy clothes you actually look bigger....maybe buy a new pair of jeans and they will notice. Have faith!!!0
-
no one has said anything about mine either, but that's what pushes me to lose and hope that people start to notice soon!0
-
Yea I just saw your pics and I can tell!! You look great! Make sure to buy new sizes as you need them and perhaps more people will be able to tell.0
-
My hubby didn't notice mine either (which upset me as well). On the other hand he sees me every day so its harder to see. My girlfriend who I see every few weeks def noticed though and that made me feel a lot better0

18lbs and dint notice.Try to change u r attire or wear a tight fit dress n people will notice.what does u r family say?0

The scale is not wrong. Keep in mind the more you have to lose the longer it will take people to notice. 18 pounds is certainly significant but at your starting weight it is 7% of your total body weight. The smaller you are the more noticeable it becomes since it is a larger percentage of your body weight.. I'm normal BMI currently at 144 but started around 159 for a 15 pound loss but that is 9% of my starting weight and people that I haven't seen for awhile notice it. Also keep in mind that if people see you every day it occurs gradually and it may not hit them for awhile that there is something different until it is more dramatic. Good job on the loss. Keep at it and people will defintiely notice.0

I know it's hard... I have lost a few pds but my family notices it the most. I don't care who doesn't notice. I love the way my clothes fit and that's enough for me. Besides by summer, if I keep up with the good eating habits, my clothes will tell the story. keep going anyway, irregardless! You're doing this for you, right?0

I've lost 27lbs and people who havent seen me in awhile will say something...but people who see me all the time haven't really said anything...My husband finally said something not to long ago when he realized I was wearing a piar of shorts that I shouldnt have last summer, this year they actually fit and arent tight. I know I see the difference, in my clothes and being able to wear clothes that I grew out of before! Plus I physically just feel better all around...I dont let that I am not getting all the comments discourage me, I know that this is what I want and what I am going to do. Keep up your good work!! Your doing AMAZING!!0

My husband lost 25 lbs before I could see a huge difference. He has lost 35 lbs now and looks like a totally different person. Give it time.0

Dear most important that YOU notice yourself. WTG!0
-
I have lost 25 and no one has said anything to me yet.0

I was at 17 lbs and still no one said anything. But I was still wearing the same size pants. Last week I tried on a pair of jeans that were a size smaller. They fit (even a little baggy) and everyone at work sayed Have you lost weight?? You look great. It felt so good. I think even though I was losing, because I was still wearing the same clothes (they were just baggy) No one could really see the loss.0
-
u look great anyway keep up the gd work:flowerforyou:0
-
At 12 pounds people noticed with me. I think its all in your body type before you lost weight and as you lose weight...0
-
No the scale isnt wrong...It took me losing like 20 lb for people to notice. And still some of my co-workers and friends have not said anything to me. Hold strong !0
-
Thanks everyone! You are right!! I feel better and my clothes are fitting better and that's all that matters!! Thanks for all of you thoughts and comments!0

Hi,
When I lost my weight, it wasn't until I had lost about 30 pounds that anyone noticed.....and then because I bought some jeans that actually fit me
Remember that you are doing this for YOU.......the time will come when others notice!

Nope... but I'm blaming it on winter clothing. I'm sure they'll notice by the time I'm wearing shorts and short sleeved shirts.
At least, they'd better... dang it!0 -
First, congratulations! I agree with a previous poster who told you that maybe people didn't want to say you looked as if you lost weight so as not to be insensitive. I've lost about the same as you, it's about a third of the way for me, and I am lucky (I guess!?) that it is very noticeable right away in my face and belly...my friend noticed right away after about five lbs! Also, I am announcing every little while if I am down a pound or boxed up fat clothes for donation....0

Congrats on the weight loss. Don't worry, people will be sure to notice in time.I don't care who doesn't notice. I love the way my clothes fit and that's enough for me. Besides by summer, if I keep up with the good eating habits, my clothes will tell the story. keep going anyway, irregardless! You're doing this for you, right?
Yep. Since starting MFP last month my pants fit much more loose around my waist and no more deep inhaling when I have to button them. And if I didn't know any better I would swear that my cleavage has slightly shrunk (as someone who is top heavy this is a VERY good thing).
If people notice my weight loss that's great, but as long as I know I look better I don't care one way or the other.0 -
I wouldn't worry too much about what other people do/don't say (some people may have even noticed and chosen not to say anything because weight is such a sensitive issue for a lot of women) - as long as YOU feel good about yourself and your progress, that's all that matters!!
It took me about 20lbs for people to finally say something. Don't let it discourage you though, you're making awesome progress!0 -
I hadnt lost much weight but i trimmed down and dropped a pant size, i was a little discouraged because no one noticed and then i went to a formal dinner in a slim black halter dress and everyone was like. "you look fantastic, have you lost weight?" I would just smile and nod. My mother even commented on how flat my sttomach was becoming. It takes time, but keep up the great work. Im a tomboy so i usually wear mens shirts which as we all know have NO curves. I was so excited the other day when i put on a top i hadn't worn in a while it was kinda baggy but i love it., My dad just smiled and said "you look alot better in that top now sweetie" I swear i almost squeeled. The hard work totally pays off!:happy:0

I lost 23 and nobody hasnt say anything but is ok i notice keep it up you are doing PHENOMENAL0
-
people only said to me after i lost 2 stone... so just really as i've lost 2st 2lbs, i have only dropped 1 dress size too which is depressing0
-
I'm 5'2" and it took exactly 20 lbs for anyone to notice.0

There's also a psychological theory that everyone goes around with a sort of "mental image" of the other people in their life. Very rarely do we stop to reassess this mental image until something drastic (e.g. a change of hairstyle, a different way of dressing, etc) happens to make us. A dress size might mean a lot to you and you, who looks carefully at your body to actively look for the changes, might see the losses, but for someone else who doesn't really think about your size very often, it might take that little bit more weight loss or perhaps wearing tighter-fitting clothes before their mental image of your readjusts. It does happen, it just takes time.0

I've lost 45 pounds. The people that knows I am doing this will tell me that they can see changes (that's because they look for it). While those who do not know has not said anything. I am really big to start with. I read somewhere that it's like the paper towel. The first sheet you take off, it still looks the same. But the more sheets you take off, the more noticeable it gets.
Here's to hoping my next 45 pound sheet is more noticeable! :-)0
