this is not my blog, i stumbled across it. but this is what the kids in Cleveland, Ohio eat for lunch...things like this.
how do you feel about homemade lunches being banned? did you eat school lunch as a kid? what needs to be brought about to change the school lunch debacle in the US?

I have been hearing about this and think banning sack lunches is ridiculous until every school corporation can guarantee that what they provide is healthier than what I could send from home. My son has pizza, nuggets, tacos, etc. They had cookies twice last week and cupcakes one day! I don't think the school are qualified to tell me what to feed my child right now. At least not in our area.0

Well I am sure what is being served in the schools is most likely processed foods. Furthermore the Idea of parents being told they cannot have any say in their childs diet and send their children in with food is horrific. The implications of this go so much deeper. This administration claims to be so concerned yet the FDA allows the chemicals that are in the foods today. Oreos are not even made the same. Then you need to take into consideration medical needs and children with allergies. Will they be able to handle the menu for those children or are the tax payers going to have to pay for "nutrition aides" to assist with eating.0

I definitely don't think home lunches should be banned, because I serve my children healthy food! I do think it is great that schools are changing to healthier menus. I know there are plenty of parents out there that do not provide proper nutrition and this is a great way to fight child obesity. Maybe there should be some regulations of what is ok without having to ban food from home. Maybe there should be a certain amount of sweets or junk allowed, like maybe Fridays they can bring desert? I find this topic fascinating!0

I would be mad if my son was forbidden to bring his lunch from home, as he does it most days (he buys his lunch only about 4 times a month). His school does seem to have pretty healthy lunch choices though. You get to pick 1 main entree (of 4 choices) and you get 3 sides (out of 5 choices). At least 4 of the 5 choices are some form of fruit or vegetable.0

I don't think they should ban homemade lunches, that's ridiculous! For some people it is cheaper to send their child to school with their lunch as oppose to paying the price the school charges. My step sons school chargers $1.50 for breakfast and $2.50 for lunch that's $4 a day for my 1st grader to eat, luckily he get's it reduced because $20 a week would be an insane amount to spend on a school lunch.
Also some people send their kids lunch to school because it's healthier than what the school serves. Luckily my step sons school sends home calories and nutrition info on their menu and offer the children a variety of choices.0
