So I tried this thing called a Pepino Melon. I randomly saw it in the grocery store as I was scouring for new fruits and veggies, and it was kind of cute so I grabbed one and googled it when I got home. :)
Apparently they're somewhat rare outside of South America (where they are grown) because they're really sensitive to being shipped (they bruise easily). I have no idea what they were doing here, but I'm glad I found you.

I thought they were pretty good. They're fairly bland and the consistency of like a pearish/apple. The entire fruit is edible (skin, seeds, etc). I tried it with salt (yuck), hot sauce (in SUCH moderation), and just plain. I think I liked it best plain. Traditionally it's eaten at breakfast, sometimes with sauce, sometimes as a sauce. Also served with lemon or lime juice. I kind of want to run back to the store to get another to experiment with. :)

thanks for the inspiration...I think I'll make a trip to the health food store and see what I can find...seriously, I think I've tried everything available...but I'm sure I can find something new

so I fully intended to get through circuit training routine at least twice tonight after the gym, and it was way harder than I thought!!! so I think I am going to aim to do it every day rather than more than one a day...

So, I got lucky with the new veggie being part of my recipe the other night. As for the fruit.... I searched the entire produce department, no joke! Been there done that! BUT I did find ONE that I have not had. I did not buy it tonight though... it was about the size of an apple and costs 4 bucks! So I was thinking I will check out another store to see what i run accross and if i don't find anything else... I will definitely go back to try it! :-D

I will do my circuits after my dinner settles and then I will post!

    EmRN06, crazycat585, hollyrenee1990, nachisdoll, tlaltman& ashmom86~ Welcome! :flowerforyou:

Shawnalee-I’ve never had parsnips. Are they good?

Amandac72-You still have time to get your new fruit/veggie in this week so try not to worry about too much. Enjoy your Shred!

Mjslazak-The soreness is worth the end result

Aquasw16-So true about mangos. I had 3 mangos in my fridge today and only 1 was ripe. It was delicious! Great idea re: going to an Asian or Hispanic market.

She-elf-That Pepino Melon sounds interesting. I’ll be on the lookout for one in my grocery store. Keep us updated on your experiment with your new fruit.

Pjfmaui73-Hope you can find something new to try.

Caitlinlws-That’s sounds like a good plan.

H2onut-I would like to make pico de gallo and guacamole for my husband. Do you mind sharing your recipes?

They are smelly lol and they taste like a potent root veggie. I don't think I could have eaten them on their own.

Count me in! I will need some suggestions for new fruits and vegetables, I feel like I already eat a ton of them. The exercise part of this I think I already have wrapped up. I'm training for a 5K and have downloaded a C25K app along with several 5 minute workout apps. It helps that I have a treadmill and a home gym.

So no workout for me this morning (or rather, yet). My sinuses are killing me, so I'm just concentrating on water and healthy eating today.

It occurs to me that although not a vegetable per se, I did eat quinoa in a different way yesterday and loved it: cooked in the morning with a little bit of almond milk, cinnamon, a 1/2 tsp of honey and tbsp of raisins. Sort of like oatmeal, but without the oatmeal! It's great, and I'm enjoying it again today.

Check in with you again tomorrow!

Count me in too! I'm a little late but I'll catch up. I like the idea of a new fruit and veggie. I just discovered a new Asian market that has tons of interesting new things. I'm a creature of habit and not so adventurous with food so this will be fun... hopefully.

Ok, so I will give you the recipes but... you must know - I NEVER measure anything so play with them, have fun:

    Pico de gallo:
    Chopped white onion
Chopped Tomato (seeds removed - I actually used grape tomatoes and they were good)
    Chopped Cilantro
Chopped Jalapeno Pepper (seeds removed OR leave them in if you want more heat)
    lime juice
Mix all together, refigerate to marry the flavours for at least 1 hour & serve:)

    Guacamole:
    2 Avacadoes (mashed)
    1/4 cup onion
    1/4 cup tomato
2 strips turkey bacon (Optional but I prefer it in there;)
    1 Tbsp Light Mayo
Lemon or lime Juice (about a Tbsp or 2)
    Dash of salt
    Hot sauce to taste
Mix it all up and YUM!
