It seems like an awful lot or is it just me????. . I've never really done circuit training before so I don't know what to expect. I checked and re-checked my zone settings on my HRM and all seems correct.

Circuit training for me burns more than anything else! It's probably correct!

You weren't really specific to what you did, but that is definitely reasonable.

I walk on a treadmill at 2.7mph on a 7.5% grade for 45 minutes. My HRM comes up with 628 cals burned.

Well, it is impressive, but can be achieved, specially because you said you've never done that kind of training your body is not used to it, so it is natural that it's a harder job and therefore, you burn more calories. I've been there, the first time I did the Jillian Michael's Banish fat, boost metabolism (even through I was already doing exercise daily) I burned 670 cals in 45 min, when I got used to that kind of routine, it became easier, and only burned 514 cals.

I just did 45 minutes on treadmill and burned 500 calories. I was hauling butt at the end too. That seems like a lot of calories.

That does it........I definitely need to get a HRM, because my trainer is kicking my butt all around the gym for 50 minutes and I'm just logging in about 350 calories. Thanks for the motivation and ROCK ON with your circuit training!

I'm not sure how accurate HRM are because I have never used one, but I do know that circuit training, if done correctly burns a lot of calories. So, depending on what you were doing and if you were doing it correctly it may be accurate. I burn about 400 calories in 1/2 hour just doing cardio...so add the circuit part and that number may not be as far off as you may think :)

thats really weird... but depending on how intense was the workout and your weight- it is possible.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that I think it is definitely because I've never done this type of circuit training before. I'm building up my running base and have to throw something else in there because I can't go as far on a run right now. When I'm doing the DVD's (30 day Shred, Biggest Loser Cardio, 10 minute trainer), not all at once, I can hardly catch my breath but I keep going and can push myself farther than I can running on a treadmill...at least right now.

    Hi Angela,
I did a circuit of Ellyptical (HIIT), core\ab work, calisthenics, 10 minute training DVD, and strength training. I was huffing and puffing but it felt good...again as I get more fit I know my cal burn won't be as high but riight now I am just really out of shape.

I understand being out of shape....when I started this journey over 2 months ago, it took almost nothing to get my heart rate up and now I'm recovering really quick and h/r is going back to normal almost immediately which means we are getting in better shape:) I don't have a h/r monitor but I really should get one. I have one on my treadmill but not sure how accurate that is. I'm only burning about 200 calories an hour on the treadmill(not sure if that is correct) but I can honestly say now that I love exercise and the way it makes me feel:) Super great workout you just did Debbie,......you should be so proud of yourself!!! Good luck to your continued success~ Feel free to add me if you like.

Thanks Angela!!! I know what you mean that's why I have too do more than just run because right now I only burn about 200 cal running because I can't go as long with my HR up.

I started using a Garmin HRM strap with my fore runner and I thought it was off too when I actually ran. Using the eliptical I would burn about 170 cal for two miles approx. Using the HRM and running outside I burn almost 500 in 3 miles. My legs and body are beat to shreds though afterward.

I never really thought that the easier it got the less I would burn but looking back comparing exercises it seems to be true.

Those Elipticals make you feel like a pro marathoner easily banging out 10 mi or so. take it to the outside world with variable terrian and see the diff....

    Chris,
thanks for the feedback. I have a forerunner with HRM (used to run alot) and never really used the HRM with it. Does it use the HRM to calculate your calories when you run? I miss running and am working my way back out there :-)
