On a Diet or Not?????

Well I have been on here for over a month and a half now and I was just wondering do you all still eat most of the foods you use to eat, but just in smaller amounts?? Obviously not sweets or junk food, but things like dinner and lunch?? It was mainly portion sizes I had trouble with! My dinner was enough to feed 2 grown men! I have cut out biscuits, but still allow myself some chocolate or an ice cream from time to time!!
For Example, before I joined MFP, For dinner, I would normally have a massive plate of potatoes with some vegetables and a large portion of red meat! Whereas now I eat less than half the potatoes I use to and eat more veggies and try to eat less red meat!!
So, do you still eat the foods you use to or do you eat more ultra healthy foods now??
Feel free to take a look at my diary and tell me if I am eating foods too much of some foods and not enough of others!!

I eat more healthy foods, sure. But I also don't deny myself anything. If I want something like chocolate or ice cream or LOTS of cheese, I just work it into my calorie and macro goals as best I can.0

Have you tried the skinny cow icecream sandwiches? They are awesome! my two year old even eats them! They are huge too! only 150 calories! I was amazed!0

I eat what i used too, but alot less of it. As I used to eat for the sake of eating not cause it was filling, if you get my meaning.
I can find my cal count motivation to turn down alot of foods, but I think thats all in my mind too cause if i really wanted the food, I would work up a deficit just to eat it.0 -
I never want to be on a diet again. I think you are right that portion control is the key and that by changing portions you can still have things like chocolate and ice cream sometimes. But I also like how it tracks how much protein, carbs and fat you are eating. Because i think it is important to reduce sugar, I'm learning which foods I eat have more or less sugar, and that is just naturally causing me to make healthier choices. I don't feel like I'm on a diet, but I do feel like I am more interested in eating healthier foods then I was 2 weeks ago when I started.0

It's a lifestyle change for me - I'd like to hope that I can follow through the changes I'm making after I've finished losing weight. This means making only one or two changes over a few weeks that I can stick with (and can work for my family too since I provide all of their food!)
For example, my next change will be from white pasta to wholewheat. This can't happen overnight - there'll need to be some integration - maybe using half and half for a time. Since I have two very young children maybe I'll also make a few meals with the triolore pasta you can buy as well, to illustrate how the colour change (from white to whole wheat eventually) can be fun and not something to get upset about. Kids need security and changing everything in one go, or not making changes mindfully will only serve to create problems for them and for me!
I've already made so many changes though in the past 8-9 months that the slow speed isn't a problem for me. It's all stuck too so far, and that's pretty cool I reckon :happy:0 -
I try to eat more healthier and better portion size (watching calories). I still eat what I use to before my weight lost journey. This to me is a life style change and not a "diet". I not going deprive myself of the things I enjoy to eat and drink. I just have to them in moderation.0

I make healthy choices now than I used to but I don't consider myself on a diet. Years ago I had been a fairly healthy eater....whole grains, unprocessed foods. Then I got married and my hubby's diet wasn't as good and mine slipped as well. I used to do a lot of running through the drive-thru in the morning but now I make my breakfast. I'm also in the midst of a clean eating challenge on Facebook so my eating habits have gotten a bit stricter for that.
I do occasionally indulge and generally work it into my calorie intact or plan on doing additional exercise. I think since I make healthier choices overall that the occasionally indulgence is a worthwhile treat.0 -
I have not given up a single thing. Of course I make better choices now and watch my portions, but I still have ice cream, chocolate and all the other "bad" stuff I love on a regular basis. Anything is fine as long as it's in moderation, and I will workout a bit harder on the days that I treat myself. If I completely gave up someone it would only be a matter of time before I went back to the way I was eating before. I do not consider this a diet, it's a lifestyle change for me.0

I still eat a lot of the same things I ate before, I just either don't eat them as often, eat smaller portions and/or cook them differently (grilling instead of frying for example). If I try to cut foods I genuinely enjoy out of my diet completely there is no way on earth I'll stick to it for long so why bother.0

Hi, I have been using myfitnes pal for over a year and have mixed both dieting exersize and portion control. And have over the ime noticed that my portions sizes have drastically shrunk.lol. I have taken more control over what i eat and how mmuch so yes i have smaller portions of my usual foods and i have altered the amount of healthier foods I eat and how often. i'm gradually loosing wieght. i've lost over ten pounds but i do have medical issuses that are limiting my weightloss.i think logging my exersize and activity has helped my gain confidence in doing more and that i'm not as lazy s i though i where.
So am I on a food diet, no..
I am on a l lifestyle awareness diet. I am learnng to take care of me as if I where taking care of another.....0 -
It is a lifestyle change for me too. Smaller portions and learning what gives the most for the calorie. But I am not denying myself anything. Since I am in it for the long haul I am really just interested in learning the macros and portion control0

I'm not on a "diet", I'm eating a healthy, balanced diet for the rest of my life. I rarely eat fast food, refined sugar or processed foods. Since I've stopped drinking Coke completely (because I'm pregnant) I don't crave anything but water to drink. (Although there are times when I get sick of constant water and I'll have a sparkling juice instead.) I like chips and things once in a while, but for the most part I eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and low fat dairy. That's it. I feel better physically, emotionally, in every way possible. Eating these foods means I don't have to worry too much about portion sizes, I eat when I'm hungry and I eat enough that I'm satisfied. I don't ever deprive myself and I never let myself sit hungry.0

I eat pretty much the same stuff! Even when I crave ice cream or something, I just have the serving size and everything still works out at the end of the day. I had the portion problem, too. I never checked calories I just some how had it in my mind that if it was a small amount, it wouldn't fill me up or something, I don't even know, lol. Now that I have been counting calories and drinking a LOT more water I'm seldom hungry between meals and the serving size is plenty of food!0

I eat the same sort of things, just changed a bit to become healthier. We always had a piece of meat with every meal, so I still have that (maybe a smaller portion depending what it is), LOTS of vegetables (whereas before I never had any) and we never have chips (french fries?) anymore, instead we have new potatoes. I don't eat chocolate/sweets/junk food at all now though. I wouldn't consider it a diet, I'm eating so much more food now than I used to because I get more healthy foods for my calories than I was with junk foods. (:0

i still eat the same things just less of it i had a problem with portion control. one thing i did change is i eat less red meat i replace my beef burger with turkey burger its pretty good0

I still eat everything I used to eat- just less of it. Portion control and mindless snacking were my downfalls and now that I am aware of how much I'm eating (because I have to log it!) it's made a HUGE difference.0
-
I mostly eat the same foods, just about half as much. The only things I removed from my diet or cut way back on is full-fat/higher-fat dairy and 'white' grains (pasta, white rice, saltine crackers, etc.). I deeply believe that feeding our bodies wholesome food in moderate, balanced amounts is where it's at. That being said, I am totally open to trying "light" or diet foods...especially ice cream treats!0

I wouldn't say that I'm on a diet because I'm not really depriving myself. But I definitely am eating different things. For example, pasta and I are no longer friends. It is one thing I over eat no matter what I tell myself going in, so I would just rather not tempt myself.
I also try to not eat processed foods. Once I started logging my foods I realized how much sodium I was ingesting. No wonder my face was bloated like a basketball!
And when I am hungry I now turn to baby carrots or a small salad between meals, not a bowl of cereal or junk food.
That's basically it for me. Just eating less, making smarter food choices and exercising.0 -
I still eat sweets0

I still eat mostly what I use to as long as its healthy, but cut down on portion size and don't snack as much anymore. Since starting mfp I have become much more aware of what and how much is going in my body. I have cut down on sugar, carbs, sodium, etc and it feels great! I haven't lost too much weight yet as I'm fairly new, but just by changing my diet that little bit has given much more energy! I still allow myself treats, but instead of sitting down with a big bowl of ice cream I will have a skinny cow bar or some frozen yogurt. I also just ordered some chocolate vitatops and am super excited for those!0

I still eat sweets
Me too! And junk.
95% of the time, I eat healthier and/or more realistic portions than before, but I'm still enjoying pizza, cake, candy, booze. For me, the biggest difference is the amount of exercise and activity I get. It enables me to eat pretty much whatever I want. I had Long Island Ice Teas, birthday cake and peanut butter fudge last night... then ran a 5k this morning.0
