I know that this recipe was posted already, but I took it and made it even healthier! LESS THAN 300 calories per serving!

Ingredients:
8 oz. (dry) whole wheat spaghetti, boiled
cooking spray

2 oz. no fat cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 c. no-fat sour cream

1 lb. lean ground meat, browned (or turkey if you want it even healthier)
2 cans (8 oz. each) tomato sauce w/garlic
Salt & Pepper to taste

5 oz. shredded fat free cheddar cheese

Instructions:
1. Cook the pasta. While it's boiling, combine the cream cheese, & sour cream in a bowl & set aside.
2. Brown the meat, drain & return to pan. Add tomato sauce (or tomatoes & garlic), reduce heat & simmer 20 minutes.
3. When the pasta is done boiling, drain, and add to a large casserole lightly coated in cooking spray
4. Spread the sour cream/cream cheese mixture over the spaghetti, then spread the meat/tomato mixture over that.
5. Sprinkle with cheese & cover the casserole. Bake (covered) @ 350 F for 25 minutes.
6. Remove cover and bake 5-10 more minutes until cheese is hot & bubbly on top.

This serves 8 people...ready for the numbers?

Sounds pretty good but what about sodium numbers? There's a lot of low-fat and fat-free stuff which means high sodium. and canned tomato sauce is high in sodium too.

Sodium per serving is 535. Instead of using tomato sauce, you could use cubed fresh tomatoes. There's always variations on this. I don't have a problem with sodium, so I don't track it.

I just tried this recipe last week from another post and I like your idea about the tomato sauce with garlic. I just used regular spaghetti sauce and it was lacking a little flavor. I was thinking of adding something like garlic to the cream cheese/cottage cheese mixture because the spaghetti sauce kind of just stayed on top and didn't mix those flavors well. Or maybe mix a little of the sauce in the bowl with the cheese mixture. As you said, you can easily customize it. I decided to use ziti instead of spaghetti because the calories per serving were the same and they really held the sauce well. I will try your changes the next time I make it!
