Gaining instead of losing

I have been at this for over a month now. I am staying under my calories and have started excercising but for the past two weeks I am gaining. I lost 6 lbs the first month and in the past 2 weeks have gained almost all of it back. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Any suggestions??

check your measurements, as long as those are going down, you are in the right direction0

You should make your diary public so you can get some useful feedback on what's going on...it could be soo many things0

Keep at it. You hit plateaus every now and again. I usually find that means it's time to shake up the workout routine a little bit. Maybe toss a bit of interval training in there, or do some unusual isometric type exercises. Don't get discouraged: even if the scale is pointing at the same number, your pants are probably getting a little bit looser each time you step on.0

I'd recommend opening your diary and giving some more basic info (height, weight, age, loss/week goal, exercise plan, etc) if you'd like some good suggestions on things to adjust. :flowerforyou:0

Could be a lot of different things! Sodium and sugar are HUGE water retainers. So if you're eating excess amounts of sodium or processed sugar, that will make you seem like you've gained weight when you haven't. As long as you're not hugely over eating, you should cut down on sodium and sugar, and up your water intake. And remember that a pound is 3500 calories, so in order to gain back 5 lbs, you would have had to over eat by 17,500 calories. Have you done that? If not, it would be really helpful if you could open your diary so we can help you more.0

This often happens but keep at it. I change up my diet and try new crazy things. One or two days out of the week I will eat a lot, I mean around 1800 and then go back down to 1200... this tricks my body into thinking i am changing directions but it gets me right back on track. You can burn the extra eaten calories off with your weekly workouts. Also, try eating exercise calories if you do not already, at least for a week. You can also try low carb and sugar with high protein which will help too. Just play trial and error, you can do it.0

Watch your sodium it can be a killer when it comes to weight loss. Upping your water intake may also help it come back down. This has happened to me before and almost always is water retention especially around that time of the month.
I add fresh lemon juice to luke warm water and try to drink at least one glass per day. I swear by it.0 -
You mentioned you started exercising, what are you doing? Sore and fatigued muscles can cause a temporary spike on the scale as someone pointed out to me the other day. As others have mentioned, your sodium could be too high and be causing you to retain water.0

Weigh yourself at the same time every day. I usually weigh myself every morning. The scale fluctuates from up to 3 lbs from time to time, but don't worry about it. Start taking pictures, fitting into clothes and measurements to track your progress. Using the scale is just a tool, but it falls short when you begin to gain muscle as well. Also, females tend to hold more water (a week prior?) during certain times of the month. Just keep at it and the results will come.0

Someone at work told me the same thing and when I did, I only lost one inch on my bust, nothing anywhere else0
