Whats your favorite Protein shake?

I've been working out/training off and on for years and I've seen success with out the aid of supplements. Now its seeming as though I may need it. So I'm wondering what protein shakes or supplements everyone is using and why? Personally I'm looking for something to aid with energy and muscle repair/building not so much as a dietary supplement or meal replacement.

My husband loves 2 scoops of Isolate Whey Protein Pd, 1 cup coconut milk and 1 cup blueberries (or other berries). Supposed to be around 300 cals and he says it is very filling.0

I just started drinking Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein - Vanilla Ice Cream flavor. I chose it because it's low sodium & low carb. It tastes great with soy milk.0

Hi!!!
I like Muscle Milk becuase its pretty low carb, and is the best tasing one iv tried!! pretty filling too!0 -
I've tried quite a few, and by far I love the Premier Nutrition High Protein Chocolate Shakes. I get them at Costco. 30g of protein, 160 calories. Pour it over ice and it's a great breakfast. It keeps me full until lunch and at only 160 calories allows me to have a bigger lunch and dinner than if I have Oatmeal or something else that is closer to 300 calories.0

1 Scoop Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey (Tropical Punch)
1 Scoop BSN Cellmass (Artic Berry)
1 Teaspoon L-Glutamine Powder
16 Ounces of Water
Tastes like Kool-Aid to me. I drink 1 as a mid morning snack, one directly after my workout in the afternoon.0 -
Another fan of Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein in Vanilla Ice Cream. I like the Vanilla because I can add other stuff (berries, bananas, coffee, peant butter) when I'm sick of just vanilla. I mix mine with Silk Almond Mik. Delicious!!!!0

I have a few friends who use muscle milk. Some say its a bit high on fat though. I'm not sure I haven't had the chance to check the label.0 -
I believe they do make a "light" version of Muscle Milk because my husband had some of it in the fridge, but I thought it was still high in calories to drink the whole carton.Hi!!!

Muscle Milk can be pretty hit or miss and really depends on which version you get. The regular version is outrageously high in calories and fat (I want to say somewhere near 340kcal per serving, if I remember correctly -- no doubt for bulking). Some of the "Light" versions, including the one sitting on my desk (Protein +), are ~2g/serving for 24g of protein.0

Hi!

I take GNC pro amp 60 chocolate protein. I take one scoop in the morning with my oatmeal to give it better taste then I take two more scoops with water and two vitamins as close to the end of my workout as possible. I get 60 grams of protein from it with a small amount of calories and it tastes pretty good. I'm thinking about switching to BSN syntha 6 but its way more expensive so I'm not too sure about it. Either way, something is better than nothing but don't cheap out on your protein. Make sure you're getting 15-20 grams of protein per scoop so you're not getting lots of fillers and other crap in there.0

I was weary of investing in a large container of protein powder. Any time I have been given a sample, the flavor has been repulsive. Not to mention that the concept of powdered nutrition has always been a bit off-putting to me, So I did some research to see if there was anyway to get the benefits of a protein shake, without using a powder and I found a recipe using ingredients you can find at a regular grocery store.
Here are the basic ingredients
1-2 cups milk
1/2 cup part skim milk ricotta cheese
1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese
4 ounces non-fat yogurt
1 tbl heavy cream
1 tbl healthy fat oil (almond, walnut, flax, olive, or coconut)
fresh or frozen fruit
You can read an explanation of each of the ingredients here: http://www.livestrong.com/article/87006-make-protein-shake-protein-powder/
NOTE: I use Greek yogurt, 1% milk, and cottage cheese with 4% fat (non-fat is too high in sodium for me), and I add cocoa powder instead of fruit. This makes two servings for me, depending on your calorie or protein needs this may make more or less servings for you. Calorie breakdown will be different if you add fruit and use skim/non-fat dairy.

Here's mine -- my favorite post-workout smoothie. It's got to be a long hard run or ride, though, cause it's high in calories.
1 ripe banana
1-2 cups ice
a big handful of spinach
1/2 - 3/4 cup low fat chocolate milk
2 TBS peanut butter
1 TBS honey
Blend until smooth. Enjoy.

Dang... the custom mixes sound good... but most are too high in Carb, Saturated Fats and Sodium for my liking on a one serving drink unless I'm completely replacing a meal!
If you want to gain, Muscle Milk is the way to go... DELICIOUS and yes, it is on the carbier/fattier side, but that's what your body uses as energy and to gain muscle, which by the sound of the original post, is what you want.
I am cutting... so I'm drinking a low fat mix from AtLargeNutrition called Nitrean... a mix of whey and casein proteins with little extra garbage... not the greatest tasting, but it get's the job done!0 -

+1 for Pro amp 60 although I use the vanilla. Mixes very well and tastes great.0 -
^^ you like paying more for supps than you have to?
Avoid GNC and you could get good protein brands for reasonable prices.0 -
I would have to say the best protein shakes by far are Nutrilite protein shakes. They come in chocolate, vanilla and mixed berry smoothie. They are premixed and don't need to be refrigerated until opened (taste the best chilled) they go down really smooth.
"Nutrilite protein shakes contain 25g of protein and help maintain lean body mass. They contain the exclusive Nutrilite C-Lenium Blend, which provides antioxidant protection from harmful free radicals generated by intense and prolonged exercise. No artificial colors, flavors or preservatives."

I'm open to suggestions. Can you recommend a comparable brand and location where I could buy? I've tried protein powders from the typical big box stores without much luck. They lacked in taste and consistency when mixing.0
