My name is Josh. I live in Northern California and am married with two kids. About to be three kids because we are in the process of adoption. I am 32 yrs old. I've weighed over 200 lbs ever since I can remember, and I've weighed 225 lbs for, at least, the last 10 years or so. I've always wanted to get down to 190, or at least 200 lbs. And that is my goal.

I run, mountain bike and road bike. Those are my main forms of exercise. Being that I'm 5'11" and 225 lbs, I don't really have the right body for running and road biking. I'd like to change that. I have two mountain bike races coming up and I would like to be at 200 lbs for those. One's in March and the other in April. I doubt I'll make 200 by March 13, but I know I can do it by April 30. I also have a 72 mile road ride in September. Next year I'm doing a ride that is over 500 miles long and I would love to be slimmed down for that.

My other main goal for losing weight is for health, obviously, and to be able to play with my kids without losing my breath.

Anybody else into mountain biking or road biking?

  • Josh, I know your post is about two months old but I am also looking for other mountain bikers on here that are trying to trim up. I'm a mountain biker in AZ--but was in SF for six years. I've done some XTerra triathlons but don't race now per se. I'm 6'3" and about 200lbs. I'm trying to get into fighting shape for a 7 day Durango to Moab mountain bike ride in September. Though it is not a race, I'm using a structured training plan from a coach because it is pretty intense. Anyway, it looks like you are having good success. If you want to link up, add me (or whatever it is called on this site).
  • sounds like you're more into racing that I am =) I just did the Shasta Lemurian Classic and it was rough! I'm not into racing to win. I just enjoy the environment. I like pushing myself harder than usual and riding with more skilled riders really helps my skills. I don't ever plan on going to AZ, but if you're ever in Northern Cali you can let me know. I'm in a group of about 7-8 riders and we ride together at least twice a month.
