What effort you put into your diet and exercise

Hi all,
I was just wondering how everybody is doing and what is the effort you put into your diet and exercise.
I changed totally my life I think. I eat a lots of veggies and fruits and workout everyday doing not only cardiovascular but strength training as well (1-2 hours). I also drink a lot of water and eating way more than 1200 calorie. I thought when I started to use this site that I am doing a right thing eating 1200 calorie or under, but soon I discovered with a help of my MFP friend who is actually a personal trainer as well that I've put my body in starvation mode and made my body keep all the food in instead of loosing weight.
I am reading most of the comments on the forums and I saw that many other people has a same problem like I had that even tho they eat around 1200 calorie still not loosing weight. The other problem that I had that I did not really eat healthy I mean the main thing was to be under the 1200 calorie which is the biggest enemy of my body as soon I learned that it does matter what food you feed your body with so just because I eat one hamburger or chips and I am still under my calories does not mean that I am healthier or going to loose wight.
So my question is how serious are you to loose weight and what effort you do to make the possible happen and change your life for good !?
Thanks for all of your comments!
Good luck for everyone.

    LOVE this thread.

I too started out @ 1200 calories. Now I eat b/w 1400-1700, but I DID have to kick my work-outs up a notch and WATCH my eating. When weight loss stalled I realized I wasn't eating as clean as I possibly could or I was having too many little "this one bite of this will be ok"s.

I too do strength training 3x week for @ 40 minutes (lift HEAVY weights ladies) and I try to do HIIT 6 days a week. I'm losing again and I'm never hungry.

The stuff I eat tastes AWESOME! It takes using your brain, being accountable, and logging in EVERYDAY, and doing what I need to do (eat clean, exercise) even when I don't feel like it!

    You can do it too!

I think there's a fine line between being serious and being psychotic. In the end, this is a change in lifestyle. If you go so gung-ho that you aren't able to enjoy life, then you're going to end up quitting. I tend to be an "all or nothing" person. I've finally learned (and am trying really hard to continue to remind myself) that "everything in moderation" is a more livable lifestyle.

I've also learned that calories are not are enemies. It's fuel. Nothing more, nothing less. Some cars require more fuel than others to run efficiently. It's finding the right number of calories that works for YOUR body. 1200 isn't a magic number - it's a guideline of what you shouldn't go under as most bodies need that to operate efficiently (e.g., not go into starvation mode). If you workout for the day, then you need to make up those calories burned so you AT LEAST have an input of 1200 net calories. (1200 food calories + 400 exercise calories = 1600 calories). Continually failing to do so only results in a body not running efficiently.

I agree with you different people need different technique and calorie input. Keep up the good job!

I have been on the site for a month, I have completely changed what I eat. I am trying to eat as less processed as possible. I have gotten my blood pressure down to a number that I don't have to take Blood pressure meds. My biggest problem has been that I have come to realize that in order to continue to lose and keep my blood pressure in the good range I am going to have to give up alcohol completely. I have tried just having a few on the girls night outs and it stalls my losing for 3-4 days no matter how much I work out and my blood pressure shows it for 2-3 days. I really have thought about it and realized I want this more than those few drinks and I can go out with my friends and have ice water. I think as the weeks go on I am giving the effort needed to lose ,diet wise and my exercise has been daily, not always a huge burn , but some sort of exercise each and every day. Thank you for posting this and giving us a moment to reflect upon that.

I used to eat out at least 4-5 times a week, I drank soda like it was water, and chips, cookies and candy were something I couldn't live without....That was three weeks ago. I'm happy to say I have not had ANY of the things I've listed above since starting on here. It feels so good and I'm so proud of myself. I am very motivated! I go to the gym every morning 7 days a week, the crazy thing is I actually enjoy it now. I'm a mother of two and would really like to have a third but I promised myself I would get my body back before getting pregnant again. Only 8 pounds to go!

I am with you. I reached my original goal weight last week. Though I did adjust it down further, I pretty much don't care if I reach it or go beyond it. We were discussing this weight/health management thing and decided that I believe I have relearned (sp) how to eat and exercise. I don't worry to much about calories, I rarely come close to the recommended maximum. As far as exercise I get out 4-5 days a week for about an hour.

It's working for me. This site is great, as it keeps me honest as I log my food intake during the day.

@ jsteras I am glad that I am not alone and others realized the healthy way to loose weight. By the way 1 glass of wine each day is officially healthy but must be dry and red :) Good luck on your goals!

@joannbuist23 I am glad for you! Keep up the good work and good luck for you too!

@vzepol good job! I am happy for you to especially because you experienced on your own how to feel good in your own body and gone till you reached your goals! Amazing job! Keep up! Good luck for you too!

Yes, definitely. I'm more psychotic than serious as I tend to go for it hardcore for maybe 6-12 weeks, losing 1-1.5 stone or so then freak out at what I've done, start eat normally again, stop workout like a maniac and put most of it back on again. Then I freak out that I've got fat and go psychotic again. Repeat ad nauseum.

But (as always!) I'm determined that I'm serious this time. I'm going to the gym 6 times a week for 90 mins - 3 hours and trying to cycle and walk to places whenever I have time rather than use the car.
I'm trying to hit in the region of 1000 calories a day (slightly under because 4 figures frightens me) but working hard to keep it above 950) which usually gives me a positve net and I'm making sure I eat lots of fruit and veggies and much more protein than I usually do. Starchy carbs are mostly out apart from rice cakes. I'm also making sure I eat a snack after evening workouts which I didn't used to let myself do so that's a positive change.

3 weeks in but I haven't dared weigh myself yet. From clothes and comments I'd estimate I've lost 8-10 pounds or so but who knows!

    Hello,

I think you are probably burning a lot of calories in your workouts... I joined a "bootcamp" a while ago and expected a lot of weightloss, but didn't lose a pound in 4 weeks of working out an hour every morning! Now I am averaging 1.5 pounds a week just tracking my food and doing 45 mionutes of cardio 2-3 times a week. I try to make sure the food I eat is healthy and high in fiber and protien. I track EVERYTHING I eat and exercise. I think this website overestimates the calories burned working out, but whatever. It has been working well for me and I am very happy with the changes I'm seeing.

I have also found that the closer I am to my goal, the harder it is to lose weight. If you are already pretty light, your body may not want to let go of those last 5-10 pounds for biological reasons. Either way, it is good that you are working out and eating healthy!

Maybe you are still eating under your calories. Try to check out with the help of this site:http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
I believe the last 5-10 pounds can goes down if you kick your body a bit and eat&workout zig-zag style like one day you eat/exercise more other day eat less that will help your metabolism get confused and drop the last lbs:)
    For exercise check out: www.bodyrock.tv

    Hope it helps.
    Good luck for you too!

I like this thread..We give our selfs such a hard time sometimes without thinking of all the changes we have made.

I gave up all soda which was like water to me and the sad part i do not miss it one bit yet i used to drink liters of the stuff.
Have learned to love water 2L plus a day.
I joined zumba and am loving it. I used to teach hip hop to kids but gave up when i shattered my knee cap and was in cast for 12 weeks. I was kind of scared to do dance again(all in the head) but i am starting with zumba and will get back into the thing that made me so so happy.
I have started jogging 5-6 times a week for a hour at a time. Oh yeah my *kitten* is jogging!!!
Used to eat out 4-5 times a week ok who am i kidding sometimes 7 times a week and i do not eat out at all now just because i want to know what i am eating,i am not saying i never will just not for now.
Have always loved veggies(i am a vegetarian) but finding new healthy ways to enjoy them.

And last but not least i log everything,i reply to as many messages on mfp as i can and feel like the first time i have a great support system because of all you amazing people

You go girl! That's the spirit what everyone should have :). I am from Europe too by the way and thinking the same way I rather cook daily than go out for eating who knows what! I also planted some veggies and can't wait to see them grow and eat from it later on :))) Good luck and keep up the good work!

What part of europe? I would LOVE my own veggie patch,i am going traveling for the year so will wait until i get back.
Its crazy in europe that they do not show any nutritional information for eating out what so ever....i hope we catch up with the rest of the world on that soon.

We have all made so many changes in our lives because we want this and WE WILL GET THERE!!!

This is the #1 focus in my life. I am constantly either eating, planning meals, or working out, or thinking about any of the above. It has become my primary focus and obsession.

2nd that. It's become another hobby. Weight lifting has been an interest of mine since it was offered as PE class in high school. Improving my cardio endurance has been a challenge. Learning (being open minded) about different ways to fuel my body has been a cool journey. Also, reading more and watching shows like The Biggest Loser, Too Fat for Fifteen, and Heavy. Youtube video of "Dead Fat". It all works towards my goals.

Great topic!! I am very serious and loving it. This time its not a diet. It is my lifestyle change. I have done working out in the past and dieted and lost and gained every time and never longer than 2 months at a time. This time is different. I have been at this since January. Started out with a fad diet. And got fed up with it quickly. I decided I'd start doing things the old fashioned way. Eat right and exercise. I am still working on the eating right thing, but it is definately headed in a great direction. I completely gave up soda. It started as a Lent sacrifice and I am finding I don't miss it. I'm not going to say I'll never have one. Lent is up on Sunday and I may have one here and there after that, but never again a daily thing. I long every single day and have for the past week and a half. I get excited to see how much I can eat each day rather than getting upset at all the things I'm missing in a diet. I have a new enjoyment trying to figure out how to reach my daily food goal after exercising. I am eating much more healthy veggies and fruits every day. I try to strive for at least two servings of each. I don't want to look this way anymore. I want to be fit. I am loving eating and exercising. When people ask me what I'm doing, I tell them the old fashion way. Its the only way that works for me!!!

Good job! I did same I started to workout when I gained only like 10 lbs but gave up after 2-3 months cause there were no change. After I gained 20 and started to workout but did not changed my habits and eat whatever, although I never eat much, but late and often junk :)So this is the 3rd time that I am doing and it is so cool I feel myself more active than ever and I also changed my lifestyle! Good work all of you! I am so glad to find a group of people who are really committed and motivated as much as I am! Keep up the good work!
