does water make you thirstier?

I've noticed that when I drink water it makes me thirstier. Not all the time but most of the time if I drink water it makes me even more thirsty. I'm wondering if this is a good thing or a bad thing? I know that sounds stupid but I've been told that is a sign I'm dehydrated. I'm not sure. I'm always thirsty and as I said I seem to be even thirstier after a glass or two of water.

I don't have an answer for you but I did the same thing today. As soon as I took a sip of water my mouth was bone dry. It was crazy! So you're not alone I also drank almost 14 glasses of water so I'm not sure how I could be dehydrated. It was only when I drank the water too..weird.0

You know what?? I've noticed the same thing! Yesterday I said to myself "Mmmmm either this water is REALLY good, or I must be really thirsty" lol
Its "that time of the month" for me, so I'm assuming that's why??0 -
I have been told by others that it is because you are hydrating your body. Now it knows how thirsty it was to begin with and wants more water.Just what I heard though. It is not a bad thing, drink as much water as you want, it helps me lose weight and feel full.0

It's a good thing. It's happening to me too!
Basically, when you are dehydrated, your brain stops telling you that you are thirsty, and so you don't feel it. However, when you start drinking more, you reactivate whatever it is that tells you that you are thirsty.
I still don't drink the 'required' amount of water a day, but I am much closer than I ever used to be, and I've found that I'm thirsty more AND I can't really drink other kinds of drinks anymore...especially sweet stuff like Kool Aid and pop.0 -
that happens to me every morning, and usually continues on until i've had at least 2 liters of water. i don't really think about it cuz. . .hey, i'm gonna drink about a gallon of water today, anyway, so i know i won't be thirsty for long.0

Thanks. I'm glad I'm not alone. Lol. I thought maybe I was weird. Thanks for letting me know i"m not. It's also "that time of the month" for me as well so that may also play a role.0

Disclaimer: The following may be TMI for some people.. lol
First of all, a half-gallon of water never hurt nobody, so drink away! But a good indicator of your level of hydration would be the color of your urine. The clearer, the better. Feel free to google "hydration indicator" to verify...
I have experienced over-hydration, which was a VERY uncomfortable experience; almost like being drunk on water, but completely conscious and aware. However, it took a LOT of water to feel like that. But if your body is telling you it wants more water, by all means, don't argue!0 -
I don't think it makes me thirsier, but I think it does make me more aware of my thirst.
I think the best advice it to look at your urine (as per the post above) which is a good indication of how hydrated you are.
If you are always really thirsty, but know you are drinking enough water, you should talk to your doctor about it - I have it in my head that it is one sign of diabetes.0 -
