Weightloss is not a one size fit all thing

Okay, so i hardly ever feel the need to post a topic, but several posts i have come across kind of keeps poking me in the rib. From my experience here on MFP, weightloss is not a one size fit all, in the sense that everybody's body is different and we need to find out what works for us as individuals and go with it. Somethings to consider
1. exercise: find what works for you and do it, it may be running, or going to the gym, or exercise videos at home (thats all i do), or walking, spinning, the options are endless. Just because P90x/JM 3DS worked for someone else, doesnt mean that it will work for you, or that you will like it. The more you like the exercise you do, the more possibility of you doing it.
2. food: some people say eat clean or only vegetables and fruits, others say dont, again its all about balance. I think that in your weightloss journey, it is important to find what is sustainable in the long run. I love to eat pasta, rice and potatoes. Those are things i see myself eating for the rest of my life, i keep them in, while upping my veggies and fruit intake, making better substitutions like whole grains, and also eating the things i love in moderation. Find what works for your diet
3. Weightloss is a continuous process: the same thing does not work for ever, you will need to keep adjusting and readjusting, some things will work, others wont, keep working at it. Remember we did not put on the weight in one day, it wont come off in day.
4. exercise calories: MFP as a site is built in such a way that your exercise calories are available for eating a little more. There is an ongoing debate about that. again find what works for you. Some people eat it back and lose weight, some eat it back and dont lose weight. For me, some days i eat half of it back, other days i dont at all. I listen to my body and also it is dependent on the size of the burn. If it is not a lot, i dont eat it back. This is what works for me, find what works for you.
5. MFP friends: again find the right balance, i am all about support, if i have you as a friend, you will hear from me alot. But i expect it to be a two way thing. If i find that you do not support me as much as i do you/ or at all (you comment on my post like once a month), i take u off my list. Also if you are not consistent as a person, thats takes you off my list too. Its nothing personal, but i just think that my emphasis is not on quantity but quality. I am someone who makes up alot of excuses, and i do not want to use the opportunity of an MFP friend not working out for days as an excuse for me not to. Know thyself...lol... But then again this might not work for everyone. Find out the kind of person you are, the amount of friends you need to complete your journey and stick to it.

I completely agree with you! I see a lot of arguments about what is right or what is wrong. Honestly, what might be right for me, will be wrong for you and vice versa. All the information offered on MFP is meant to be a starting point. You have to take responsibility for your own weight loss journey and tweak it so it fits your life. If eating back your exercise calories works for YOU, then eat them back. If not eating them back works better, than don't. I'm tired of seeing all the arguing over this particular point. I personally HAVE to eat them back or I'm too low calorie-wise. This leads to a lack of weight loss for me. So, I do what works for ME. Learn your own body! Learn what works for you! I like sugary treats and I know that I can't live without them in my life, so I account for them in my daily calories. Not having what you want will turn you into a resentful person and cause you to give up.0

Your point #3 is so key. I think we can get really caught up in thinking that the weight-loss plan has “failed” when the scale doesn’t move for a couple of weeks. It’s so much healthier to think of it as a signal. Change something. And usually, the change that is needed is small. But the usual reaction I see are people posting that they’re changing everything: calories, activity level, upping exercise, reducing carbs, etc., etc. We just need to keep taking a breath and remaining mindful that this is a process. And it evolves. What we did two months ago may no longer be working. And that’s okay. Because something else *will* work.0

Love your post! Very practical (and open) mind-set. I think it's great if people eat clean, exercise this way or that, but weight loss is truly a personal journey. Advice is wonderful, criticism...not so much sometimes. I have been harsh on myself in the past when I couldn't stick with a certain program or diet plan. But since starting MFP I have been teaching myself that I can lose weight and still be gentle on myself. This is a learning process. I am making healthier substitutions and exercising more (the way that I'm comfortable with right now) and know that down the road this can change even more...when I'm ready for it.0

But since starting MFP I have been teaching myself that I can lose weight and still be gentle on myself. This is a learning process. I am making healthier substitutions and exercising more (the way that I'm comfortable with right now) and know that down the road this can change even more...when I'm ready for it.
