Another HRM question

At the fitness center with no one else around (it's small and in my apartment building) wearing my Polar F4 HRM and on a treadmill that says "polar compatible" for heart rate reading. Now with that in mind, I was on the treadmill for 1 hour and most of the time the treadmill and HRM were in 10 beats of each other, but sometimes the treadmill would jump around and go from the 30's to 170 etc. Anyone know why? Even my HRM said 0 three different times then would climb back up to what I assumed to be the correct heart rate. Is this normal? Does anyone else's HR monitor go to 0 sometimes? I'm just wondering if I should try to exchange this one. Thanks for your help :flowerforyou:

hmm, mine never has gone back to 0, but I do know that your sensors have to be damp before it works accurately sometimes. Maybe someone else can shed more light for you, but I do hope you get it figured out!
  • Mine messes up when the chest strap isn't lying flat on me. I have to cheat and tuck it under my bra to make it work. Maybe it just moved around?

I also don't like paying attention to the machine. I usually use a machine where the HRM isn't working so that I don't have to see the numbers conflicting.

The Polar F4's don't have a mechanism for blocking other signals. I got an F6 because that model codes the signal so you don't get crosstalk, it's possible that interference is what caused the problem with your HRM. I've never seen it personally so I'm just guessing . . . the contacts not being able to sense properly could be the reason too.

Yes, the F4 could be messing up by picking up other signals.

Also, make sure it's on right.

    --tight against your chest
--sensors moistened before putting it on (I use Buhbump cream--works great)
--the Polar logo has to be pointing towards your head
    --make sure it's tight enough
