Unbelievable - even to my Doctor!

Years ago I was diagnosed with runaway diabetes, high blood pressure and "immeasurable" cholesterol. Your triglycerides are to be under 150. Mine were 3,576 just two years ago. After many visits to various doctors we had pounded that number down to 550. As you may expect I received 3 stents on March 29th of this year. Sunday I will turn 50. After the heart procedure I have become obsessed with my diet and exercise habits. A big part of that was finding myfitnesspal.com and tracking everything I do. To the amazement of my doctors, my family and myself I had new blood numbers pulled Sunday. My tri’s are down to a low 93 and cholesterol is at 85! Movement that is unbelievable in just 26 days. This application has allowed me to get a handle on what I eat and how bad I was doing when I thought I was doing well. Thank you.

There was a main feature article in New Scientist about exactly that last year. See if you can find it online. It was about patients with severe diabetes being cured by having surgery that meant they had to eat cleanly.

Well done. People like you are amazing.

That's awesome! Do you mind if I ask what you were eating before that you thought was good for you that didn't turn out to be so good?

It was the small things that tracking my food has pointed out. Like you have a salmon dinner thinking "this is great!" to realize later you put 200 calories worth of tartar on the fish and 100's of calories of dressing on the salad. You are walking around the office and you have a cookie here and some candy there without even thinking about it. My wife and I would go out to dinner often and you have the appetizer, salad, entree, dessert...2000 calories later...Wow!

Now it is fat free, sugar free everything with me making 90% of the food I choose to eat. Amazing difference.

    What a fabulous acheivement!!
Its so great to hear the stories of the ones who change.
I am a nurse and often see the patients BEFORE surgery givign them all the education and idea to change, then six months later we see them again back fallen into the old ruts.

I made a serious decision to get a hold of myself and my own health for many reasons but really who wants to take advice from a health professional who isn't healthy!!
Great job at making the changes!!!
