I started at 330lbs and want to lose half of my weight--get down to 165. (I'm 5'9")
I just wanted to know if anyone else is aiming for half of their weight or if anyone has succeeded at losing half of their weight. Thanks in advance for the inspiration!!

Lot's of people have done this here. In fact, some have lost more than half of their body weight. You can do this if you're committed to the process. Make sure you have friends who support you and learn to ignore the negatives. Celebrate the victories and log your daily calories. You'll be amazed at the results!0

I am trying to lose roughly half my body weight (maybe a bit more) so far I'm down about 1/4 of the way (52 pounds) Just remember to have patience and log EVERYTHING!! You can do it!0

Yes you will find many who are on that journey! I am as well I started at 412 and I am currently 337. I have not lost anything in two weeks! Am I giving up?? Hell NO! ANd yes LOG EVERYTHING! If you cheat on MFP logging you are only cheating yourself!!! I am not kidding. Yesterday I logged 5 m&m's!!!! You can do this!0

What he said, plus be patient. Weight loss happens on its own time.0 -
It is definitely possible - just read some threads on here and you'll see! I agree with the posts above, log everything. This is the only way you can ensure your calories deficit. (Diet is 80% of losing weight, exercise is only 20% - which is why I don't always do the latter!) Also try to drink LOTS of water each day.0

It absolutely can be done. I'm living proof.0

gooo you can do it0

I'm working on losing about half my body weight too. There are lots of people here who have done that and are very inspirational. I've been here for about 14 months and am just about halfway. The best advice I can give is that it is a process and takes time. Be consistent with logging and exercising and have faith your body will follow suit. It works, good luck to you on your goals!0

I started at 332, 5'7" but I am only trying to get to 190-220, maybe when I get there my goal will change, but that is a weight I remember being happy with growing up so we will see. You can lose half or more if you persevere, sometimes you may mess up but never give up!! My current process is slow but sustainable and that is what counts Good luck!0

I started at 375, currently at 273, was a bit lower but surgery and lack of exercise/motivation for a while set me back a little. My main target is to get into onederland (199) but my 50% would be 187.5, so not far beyond my target. I set myself mini targets in between though, and never more than 7lbs or it becomes a chore, and that's why I've failed in the past. Tortoise and hare..... I've slowed down but I'll win the race!0

Goal to lose 160, 10 pounds over half my body weight.
I am currently 6 pounds from the halfway mark.0 -
I've lost about 20 lbs more than my body weight. It's definitely doable, just be ready for a long journey! You can do this0
-
I started at 263. I'm at 257 now. I'm aiming for around 140 or 145...so, roughly half.0

You can do it, remember it's a struggle, it's one day at a time, it's enjoyment with every tiny step you take towards your goal, it's gratification when you know you are getting there. As with every challenge there will be small set backs, don't worry, each time they will pass on your way to being the new you0

I'm 6'6" and started at 490lbs. I got down to 230lbs, and I've added muscle since then, and I'm sitting at 242 as of this morning. It took my about 26 months to lose 260 lbs, and I've maintained for 2.5 years now. I lost the weight though calorie counting and exercise. No drugs, no surgery, and no crazy diets that forbid things. It was tough and a lot of work, but more than worth it!
This is me at 490 and then 230.
And a few pictures of in between.
It can be done if you are dedicated and stick with it!0 -
It is possible! I have talked with a few people about this. I started the first of the year. I'm 5'4" and was 250 lbs... aiming for getting rid of 80 lbs... so far I'm down about 35 lbs. Hoping to get to the ones by Christmas!! It takes a LONG time and dedication. But like everyone else has said... LOG EVERYTHING!!!0

I started in the summer of 2012. I had no real knowledge of dieting or counting calories. The first 10 pounds came off really fast, then a year the next 15 came off (not really trying to lose a ton of weight just making some small lifestyle changes)...I gained 5 pounds then lost 5 pounds then gained 5...starting working out in March for like 10-15 min a day. Toke a college PE class over the summer and workout for a least 3-4 hours a week. I lost 10 pounds in three months!! So in the last year (July 2013 to now) I have lost around 23 pounds! I don't remember the last time I weighted this much!! It's overwhelming!
I'm looking to lose 15-20 more pounds to my goal weight; but this time I'm counting calories. This is very new to me so if you have any advice, I'm all ears!

I am hoping to do exactly that. I started at 280 pounds, my goal is 140 pounds, and I am currently down 64 pounds, so not quite halfway there.0
-
It can be done. I started 2 years ago today and lost close to 70lbs and that's with getting pregnant and having a baby during this time. Just don't give up! Count your calories, don't cheat yourself and move more.0

Wow I just noticed that i am one lb away of losing half my starting body (432lbs) weight.0
-
My highest weight was 322. Starting MFP weight was 308.5. My goal weight was 175, and I maintain between 173 and 178. That's not quite half, but pretty darn close. I've now been maintaining for two years.

My goal is to lose 170 pounds, which is not only half my body weight, but will also put me at 170 pounds (That makes me excited because I'm a nerd...). I'm a touch over halfway there, having lost 103 pounds so far. It can definitely be done, and after coming so far I'm confident I can get there.0

Eat at a deficit. Exercise. Take it one day at a time and stay positive. Focus on the good you've done so far (days you've stayed under your calorie goal, weight lost so far) rather than the bad (days you've gone over, how much weight you have left to lose). It can be done. Just stay positive and focused. Remember your reasons why you want to lose weight if you're tempted to eat more than you should.
I also think something important is not to deprive yourself. If you want a treat, have it. But make sure you always stay under your calorie goal. This means you'll have to eat less than you used to but you can still eat what you enjoy. If you must drive thru, get a kids meal instead of a combo. Eat a small piece of cake instead of a big one. It's about portion control and about a lifestyle change and not a "diet." Because otherwise you'll constantly be tempted to eat the foods you're not allowed to eat, and then you'll gain the weight back as soon as you go off the "diet."
Some people have also found it helpful to trade certain foods out. Eat whole grains, fresh fruit and veggies. Minimize things like pizza and try to cut out soda if you can (regular soda is full of empty calories and diet soda is full of chemicals). Eat a small dessert (something that can fit in your hand) if you have any dessert at all. Save alcohol for weekends or special occasions, and even then only in moderation. On birthdays and holidays, it's okay to go a little over your goal, but plan for it (maybe skip eating or only eat a light snack if you know you'll be going out) and be sure to exercise to burn off the extra calories over the week (before your next weigh-in).0 -
I will be losing nearly half my weight. I am starting at 115kgs and I eventually want to end up between 60-65kgs - reassessing as things get close. I am 5'7".
I wish you all the best!! If you want another buddy feel free to add me0 -
Yay! I knew there had to be tons of other people out there doing the same thing I'm doing. I've only been doing MFP for about 5 weeks and have already lost 9 pounds. I always stay under my calories, I work out at least 3 times a week and I don't eat back my exercise calories. Things have really been going well and I know this is a lifestyle change, and so I am not getting frustrated. I've tried losing weight for years. I'm almost 30 and have been heavy since like 4th grade. This time something has changed and I know it's finally going to work! I'm hoping to get out of the THREE-OH-OH by my big THREE-OH in 3 months. I know I can do that. Shouldn't be too hard. Loving MFP. Thanks for all your support!0
