Just wanted to let everyone know from my reading online, they say an average Kettleball class equals about 20 cal burned per minute. Getting ready to head to mine now )

Might depend on the weight of a kettle bell.

20 calories per MINUTE? That's 100 in 5 minutes. THREE HUNDRED in 15 minutes. I have to BUST serious @SS in ANY activity, sweating and about to collapse in order to do ONE hundred in 15 minutes. And I do use a ten pound kettlebell, and DO own 2 different HRMs and a BodyMediaFit, all of which have never registered kettlebells any higher than jogging.
Now I understand it goes by height and weight too, so MAYBE an out of shape 6'4" man that's over 300 lbs using a 25 pound kettlebell MIGHT be able to burn that much if he is going 100% all out, but the article most likely said "up to" 20 cal per minute, meaning that is the highest anyone could do, with the average being MUCH lower.0 -

hmmmm. this was only a 20 minute workout and it was done by experienced kettlebell users not your average gym going adult. they obviously went at an extremely high pace for the 20 minutes.
it's not like any **** or jane is going to walk into the gym and do a kettlebell workout for 60 minutes and burn 1200 calories.0 -
Exactly, and they were using VERY heavy kettlebells (12, 16, and 20 KILOGRAM, (that's 26, 35, and 44 pounds btw)), most people use 10 or 15 lbs, I even see 5's in the store, so good luck getting a good burn using one of those.
oh and:

average. Some were less. Most likely the ladies using the 26 lbs. So unless you are a hardcore kettlebell user and using at least 26 lbs, don't even expect this.
And did you see what they DID for those 20 minutes. Fast paced non-stop snatches, cadenced to a rhythm, to the point of exhaustion. They weren't switching from one exercise to the next, taking water breaks, taking their time to get good form (they already have it, they're experts, you shouldn't do what they did or you'll throw your back out).
Kettlebells are AWESOME, don't get me wrong, I love them. I just don't want people thinking they're the next fad miracle quick-fix. It's essentially a big round dumbbell, lift a heavy one and strengthen your muscles. And expect to burn 100 calories in 20 minutes.0 -
Details of the article said for aerobic was 13.6 calories per minute and then added anaerobic which was 6.6 calories per minute for a total of 20.2 which could be a bit misleading. The 272 calories per 20 minute workout on the average seems more reasonable.
No matter, it is quite a workout! And as long as you are burning calories and building strength, isn't that all that matters?0
