I make honey mustard with 2 tablespoons yellow mustard, 2 tablespoons greek yogurt, 1/2 tablespoon honey, a little black pepper/garlic powder/onion powder. It tastes good on grilled chicken sandwich instead of mayo.

I like acid, so I go heavy on apple cider vinegar, red wine vinegar, or balsamic as the base.
    - Add TruLemon/Lime/Orange/LemonPepper/OrangeGinger for a hit of citrus
    - Grind pepper/garlic/onion/chili/mustard seed, celery seed, or horseradish/wasabi powder for heat.
    Sweetener to taste

There's no calories above, but... there's no texture to it, so...

Bind it with oil and/or a dollop of yogurt/greek yogurt/fromage blanc/or whatever other semi-liquid dairy
    Added sesame seeds for bite

Dressings: Olive oil, vinegar or lemon or lime, spices. Can add mustard or mayo as thickeners. Usually equal parts oil and acid.

Alternatives: Black beans, 3 bean salad, pinto beans, salsa, sour cream mixed with blue cheese, blue cheese only, feta cheese, mozzarella.

Tricks: I like to eat all the flavorful toppings on the salad first with a little lettuce with each piece. Then once I'm left with nothing but bland lettuce it takes way less dressing to dress the salad. You'd be surprised how good those chicken pieces, and crunchy peppers, or nuts or cheeses taste on their own without any dressing at all.

This is the one that I use. I always add various herbs in it.

For those of you who like balsamic, try the flavored balsamics on salads or drizzle it over roasted asparagus. I haven't found the need to include any oil unless I am trying to make an emulsion.

    My favorites:
balsamic vinegar or any kind of vinegar
    lemon juice, lime juice
pico de gallo or any salsa (even corn salsa works as a dressing)
    cottage cheese
a fried egg... the yolk is delicious as dressing + extra protein

Lots of tasty suggestions here... now I want a salad for lunch!

I use 1/2 avocado and lemon juice in the blender with 1 tablespoon of ranch seasoning. I have an intolerance to Vinegar so this works for me.

if you like ranch dressing, this dressing is an AMAZING alternative. seriously, this stuff is so good.

    in a blender:
    1 large avocado
    2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
    1/2 cup greek yogurt
    1 teaspoon hot sauce
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
    2 garlic cloves
    3/4 teaspoon salt

keep fresh in a mason jar & enjoy :)
  • when it comes to salad dressing I like to keep it simple and fast.
1 part lemon juice or vinegar
    1 part oil (preferably olive)
    salt and pepper to taste

These are fabulous, low-calorie, and healthy. I've only been able to find it in the refrigerated section at Kroger. Several varieties, but I love the blue cheese.

    low calorie--->EEVO and balsamic vinegar.

Yesterday, 2 TBSP on buttermilk ranch(Ken's), 1/2 TBSP EEVO, some wasabi sauce mixed together. The EEVO helps to thin out the buttermilk. This is not low cal but it is pretty tasty with some zing!

I use 2 tbsp of dannon oikos dips either french onion or the cucumber dill & they are so good on my salads (I usually eat one per day) it seems to be a better option to dressing in my opinion & I prefer the taste.

I do this too, but I thin it out a little with lemon juice and sometimes and an herb mix from the local spice shop. Yesterday's was French onion dip with a shallot and dill herb mix. 2 tbsp was 35 calories.

  • I actually skip the dressing and crush up a quarter or a half of an avocado. I think it tastes even better than dressing!

My current fave ---I like to add the agave if I am using the dressing with bitter greens like kale or arugula. Sometimes I will omit the agave and sub for a little mashed avo and turmeric.

    Miso
    Agave optional
water-add by the tablespoon until desired consistency
    minced garlic

Really good quality virgin olive oil, lemon juice, some herbs if you like, put it in a screw top jar and shake it, delish
