Seriously, though, you can lose weight with nothing but a calorie deficit. I mean, it's great to replace junk food with more healthy foods, but weight loss is calories in/calories out. And I'm instantly wary of any diet plan that includes the phrases "reset," "jump start," or "kick start."
Glad to make you chuckle! I agree it's all about lifestyle changes. I don't think a few days to try to break the sugar/processed foods habit is a bad thing. We'll see how it goes
I'm going to post my results here and let them speak (hopefully) for themselves. It seems like most people on this thread have started and only a few finished. The few who stuck with it seemed to have achieved good results with the initial plan, then ate healthily to keep it off.
You know what I stuck to? Getting my nutrient intake and staying in a moderate deficit. Enjoying foods I love.
that includes sugar, processed foods and fast food in moderation. Lost 53 lbs and greatly improved my BF%, overall fitness....
and I didn't have to smoothie a thing.

I survived day 1 and am feeling pretty good. I had a moment after work last night before my BalletBar class where I was quite hungry for about 10 minutes then it was gone and I wasn't hungry at all.
Breakfast was Pear Smoothie - very good
Snack at work - 15 baby carrots & 2T hummus
Lunch will be a pb&j smoothie, looking forward to this, and I'm not normally a big fan of pb
Snack - 14 almonds and 30 cheese fiber crackers
Dinner - green smoothie - I've noticed of all the smoothies, the green is the most filling because of the spinach, I like the variety of all the different smoothies, I'm sure I won't be saying that after day 5, haha!
I plan to get back to the couch to 5k, or maybe just walk on the treadmill tonight, we'll see how I feel.0 -
This whole thread is an advertisement. Read the first 2 posts that whichever marketing firm is targeting this forum "kicked it off" with.
Further down, plenty more Stepford Wives-esqe "OH I LOVE THIS DIET. WHAT I DO IS blah blah blah AND IT WORKS GREAT FOR ME! TRY IT!".

I haven't been so good lately with my diet but on Saturday got back on task. Guess what happened, I lost 5.4lbs in 3 days. No Shakes, just eating at a deficit. I ate hash browns, wheat bread, baked potatoes, rice, chicken, lean ground beef (not grass fed or organic), turkey, Greek yogurt, eggs, etc... Granted I know most of it is water weight but the point is, that most of that weight you will lose in that 15 days is the same thing. You can do it with real food and not shakes. Shakes should be a supplement, or an occasional meal replacement, but not a diet.
I will try and remember to come back in 15 days and report my total loss to what yours is.0 -
Lots of folks drink smoothies. It's a quick easy way to get your veggies and fruit. And many people feel raw food is better for you than cooked food, so there's that. I may not be in the mood or have time to chew up a bunch of spinach and raw carrots, but I can throw it in a blender and drink a 'milkshake'. It IS solid food.

The shakes only are meal replacement for the first 5 days. Then for the next 5, it's 2 shakes, 2 snacks and 1 meal. Then next 5, it's 1 shake, 2 snacks, 2 meals.
I'm just trying to lose 5# in 15 days. Lately I've been on a roll of gaining to the point of 160# which is an all time high for me, my ultimate goal is 135. I'm just looking for a little kick in the pants to help break my addiction to sugar and salty treats and snacks.
I agree it's all about calorie deficit, for the first 5 days I'm probably around 1200 calories, next 5, 1300, then around 1500.
Hopefully this will provide the jump start I need, then can get on track to losing with healthy eating.
When I just count calories I blow through my allotment by lunch, and I'm like, what am I going to eat for dinner? Salad with vinegar?

There's one or two posters in this thread who are clearly curious about "Juicing" for whatever reason, but the main thrust is being made by marketers.
Spammers are being pulled off a lot quicker by the mods these days, so expect to see more of this kind of thing.0 -

Thanks for the support. I didn't think of that. I am probably losing because of the raw aspect of the veggies and fruits. I'm not totally raw, as I do have 2 snacks a day of 150 cals (not a lot of restrictions on those, they just need to have 5 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein and less than 10 grams of sugar).

I, for one, am extremely leary of anything with "smoothies" or "shakes" as part of the plan.
Going 3 days on pure water is the best "body reset" ever. Period.0 -

What exactly is wrong with your body that it needs a "kickstart"? (Barring legitimate medical issues, anyway.)

You were sold a lie by marketers, and now you're trying to sell it to others.
You COULD eat food without fiddling around and making smoothies, but why do that when you could unnecessarily over-complicate things and feel special because you're making a sincere effort you'll eventually abandon, because you "can't" lose weight by exercising and maintaining a slight caloric deficit?
A diet being in a book doesn't make it legitimate.
I could write a book tomorrow espousing the benefits of eating sand and you'd probably jump on board so long as it contained the words "kickstart", "jumpstart", "clean eating" or "smoothie".

So if anyone out there is interested how this is going, I've finished day 2 and am feeling very good here on day 3. Surprisingly I'm not sick of the smoothies yet, but I know I will be after 5 days. Since I'm going to need some more variety I've looked into some other recipe books.
I requested a few cookbooks from my library from Candice Kumai, she used to do a cooking show that I liked called "Cook Yourself Thin" where she would take recipes and make them lighter. She is also into juicing and smoothies and has a couple recipe books on those alone (which I know is not for everyone). She even has a baking one, which I'm excited to try.

Day 3 in the books! Today is day 4 and I've learned a few things. Planning ahead (the night before) makes everything simple and easy for the next day. This way of eating has helped calm my obsession with food.
I just have to plan my two 150 cal snacks (make sure they have the right cals/fiber/protein/sugar) and I'm good to go.
I am going to an author event at a bookstore tonight, and I've already decided I will just have tea or a latte during the event.
I'm starting to stop thinking about what I'm going to eat (as my reward) and I'm getting pleasure from sticking to the plan and losing weight (that is my reward). I'm also thinking about avoiding temptation (junky snacks at work) and when I say no, or avoid an empty calorie treat, I'm feeling victorious
I was also reading a book by Maria Menounos and she makes a lot of Harley's smoothies to stay on track, she usually has one a day, or every other day as a meal.

How you lose it is how you maintain it… that's my mantra. I do like the idea of green smoothies.. I think it would be a great thing to get nutrients for the day. But no way would i drink them for all my meals. Cause in real life.. i wouldn't do that everyday.0

After the first 5 days, I will be eating meals most of the time, just one or two smoothies a day(depending how I feel and my schedule), plus two snacks.
I am surprised I like the green smoothies the best. They are the most filling and with some pear or lime juice they taste really good.0 -

Thanks, another thing (for when I'm eating less smoothies/more meals) is just to focus on the meal at hand.
3 meals, 2 snacks, that is all I am allowed each day. I think before I grazed and went over gradually, a little more here, a little more there, sure I can make it up and only have salad for dinner. Now I'm thinking snacks are 150 calories and I can have 2 a day, that's it! Meals are 300-400 calories and I get three a day, and I'm done! It's not rocked science, break the day into smaller more planned and focused eating events. Not.... well.... I had this huge sandwich for lunch, now I can have broth for dinner, because I overate. Sure I think a couple times a week, I can have a splurge meal, but it's up to me to decide the parameters of those meals.

I used to graze too. Tried not to think too much of how much I ate, because I knew it was too much! But I worried sick about it. Now I know how much I'm eating, I know how much I can and should eat, and I know I'll be fine as long as I follow my plan. Strange, isn't it, the limits are liberating!0 -

Finished day 4 yesterday, today is my last day of 3 smoothies for meals, and I'm glad! I do enjoy my snacks, this morning was low sodium turkey and 1/2 apple. This afternoon I'll probably have fiber cheese crackers and almonds (that is one of my favorite snacks in the afternoon, a great pick me up).
I'm planning a nice pot of bean and pumpkin soup sometime this weekend.0 -

What do people have against others discussing something they are trying out? It does sound a little fad-ish but not extreme or unhealthy. I'm personally focusing on simply tracking calories but there are other methods that can work for people and they should be able to discuss these without a constant barrage of naysayers ridiculing them.0
