Jealous

Does anyone ever......lets just say gets "jealous" because someone you know is getting better results than you and putting in more effort than you. You know you could be getting those results if you put in the effort. Like I used to weight 320 pounds and currently weight 230 and when I see their success stories, I'm like why not me. It motivates me for about 1 minute then the feeling like the failure kicks in and then I sabotage myself. I haven't gained weight but my main big goal is to be under 200 pounds and I am so close.

yup... every single bloody freaking day.
what's worse is that i am already putting in the work, but still not seeing the results that people who "just cut back" seem to have without much effort at all.0 -
sometimes. but all you can do is you.0
-
Not really. I sometimes get sad seeing other make faster progress, but I know I get what I work for. Can't be jealous that someone works harder than me.0

I get jealous when I see all of the musclebound hunks on here getting all of the female attention. Sure, it makes me feel bad about myself for being a little dweeb, but it also tells me that I need to get more swole in order to warrant the level of approval that the other guys get - so the inferiority is kind of a challenge to overcome.0

No. Terrible attitude....-1

I'm guessing girls talk to you less because of your attitude than your body.

lol yes, and then I usually start talking *kitten* about them in my head "Dudes totally on juice".... #copingmechanism0

Mmmmm....I'm gonna go with no, but I understand what you're saying. Seeing other people progress in their journey never makes me feel jealous, it's more about me kicking myself because "If I would've...." then it could be me. I like to give those people a (*) for providing evidence that dedication is really the only way to get results. I'm on and off with my level of dedication. I always log and stuff, but sometimes I eat way more than I should. So I have a pretty good idea why it's not me.0

Agreed. Vicious circle and all that...a circle that I'm currently attempting to break.

Not at all I just think well done them and then focus on my own tasks. I respect the people who lose a lot of weight as they have put the work in.0
-
Of course. We are human. It is in our nature.0
-
Of course. I'm jealous of those who seem to be naturally thin -- see them walking around eating sweets, or having a burger. I'm jealous of the women who have had kids,1 or many, walking around looking worlds better than I do. I'm even jealous of my boyfriend when I see him lose 5+ lbs for just making one small change when it takes me 100x the effort to lose those same 5 lbs.
But, then I just have to breathe, and know that I don't have anybody else's body but my own and that's what I was given and that's what I have to work with. And the only thing I can do is make MY body the best it can be.

no, I am happy for the other person! jealousy is another waste of time for me, it implies lack, and there is abundance of weight loss!0

We have all this amazing food at work. Sometimes I look at people eating a big noodle bowl and go "They can eat that stuff...and they're not fat....here I am with the same old salad..."0
-
If they are putting in more effort than me then they should get better results right?0
-
Absolutely. I don't think there is a day that goes by that I don't compare myself with someone else that is prettier or skinnier and wonder why I can't be like that. And then I realize that they haven't walked in my shoes and that although I haven't reached that ultimate weight loss goal I will in time. Staying positive is the only way that we all are going to reach our goals no matter what they are. Hard work and dedication will pay off and soon we will be reaping the benefits:) Stay Strong my friend.0

Sometimes but then it's replaced by this type of thinking: NSFW language warning... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN-l6WtB71g0

I would not necessarily call it jealousy. I don't envy a person THAT IS working harder than me. I get angry at myself because if I would have started earlier then I would probably have my own success story!
I'm just tired of saying it and seeing this same body all sloppy and nasty looking. I'm sick of being slower than others and I want to be a good example to my son. I do not want to be a part of the obesity pandemic. I am not going to be a part of those statistics!0 -
I really don't. I'm happy for them. I'm busy doing me.0
-
Can't say I've ever felt that way. I usually admire their discipline/effort and attempt to match it.0

wow what a video! I use to get jealous of my boss, I thought she likes to shop, no wonder, she is so little. Didn't think it was possible for me. Well it is and now I look like her. I had to learn to live another way.0

I get jealous almost everyday. My husband and son have super fast metabolism - in fact my hubby has trouble gaining weight. Everyday I see what they eat and they can't gain weight fast enough. Everyday I count calories, stop eating before I'm full, workout till I'm sweating buckets....and ever so slowly lose one. pound. per. week. *sigh*0
-
I don't think I get jealous of the success someone had/has. I tend to get jealous of their motivation level or ability to prioritize their workouts better than I do. I don't know if that is jealousy either, I really just want to hear how they did it, to see if I can improve on what I am doing. But mostly I am losing my excess for me. (and the clothes that are in boxes calling my name)0
-
I guess I should say I am extremely happy for them, and yes I am proud of my 90 pounds, and I work out almost everyday, I am more jealous of there eating habits and how they stay so focus. I changed my habits over a year ago and I guess I am more "jealous" of someone who has been doing this as long as me and have more results. Basically I want to be like them!! lol0

I get a little envious of people who lose faster than I do, especially the ones who can eat like 1500 calories (or more!) and lose weight. When I see people say things like, "I just die if I had to eat 1200 calories a day," - I wish I felt that way.
I don't begrudge them their huge I takes and I don't wish they'd lose slower so we could be even, lol.
I just wish that I were more like that. Sometimes. But I'm very happy with own rate of loss and success.0 -
I don't but my sister in law does and it drives me batty. She is always saying how lucky I am. It's not luck if she put more effort into it she would see results as well.
Keep plugging away. You are very close to onderland. Don't compare yourself to others. Find what works for you and keep at it.0 -
Not really. However it does drive me a bit nuts when people tell me they are jealous of my success and they wish they could lose weight. Usually results in me having a conversation about MFP and offering to help them get set up on it, telling them "eat less, move more", followed by their response of "oh I don't have time for that". Two weeks later, same conversation all over again.
Sorry for the mini-rant. It's been one of those days.0 -
Not if they work harder than me.
I do if they don't have to really try and loose weight or if they can eat anything and not gain a pound.
I went on vacation with friends and a bunch of other people that are friends of friends a couple months ago. They knew I been trying to loose weight and counting calories. One friend said he would do a week with me because its not hard. (He eats anything and everything and never gains)
So we weighed in on a Saturday morning. I counted calories all week. He just ate what I ate. By Wednesday at dinner he gave up because he didn't want to not eat what he wants anymore and wanted fried food and sweets. The next Sunday morning we weighed in again. I was down 0.4 lbs. He was down 1.7 lbs. And he weighs about 25 lbs less than me.
Yes I was jealous then.
A good thing did come out of it though. A Couple of the people that were with us and knew about it afterwards was telling me that they have a different outlook now after seeing this. Most of them just thought overweight people were lazy. Now they see it is just harder for some people to loose compared to others.0
