getting more flabby as I get fit?

I've noticed that ever since I started working out, my body seems to be getting more flabby. I can feel and see muscles beneath the flab, but the flab itself is easier to grab a hold of and more jiggly. Is there a reason for that?

You're losing weight ..it's not as compact as it was

Keep losing the fat and give your skin time to settle back and you'll see the musculature more

Thanks. Is it normal for the fat to feel kind of bumpy, like marbles beneath the skin?

Total normal as you loose weight but if I may ask what exercises do you do?
It will help if you put in some resistance training if you are not getting any.
By resistance I mean bodyweight exercise, calisthenics, using weights it helps :)

Right now I'm doing weight lifting + elliptical machine 2-3 times a week for 1 hour each time. I know it's not a whole lot, but it's more than I'm used to.

Totally normal, just keep doing what you're doing.

When I got flabbier as a result of losing weight, it was because I was losing weight... i.e. losing muscle along with fat. If your training is not smart (too much cardio, which you probably are already doing; not lifting with proper rests and rest days; doing too much hypertrophy while in a deficit i.e. lifting in the 10+ rep range; training too many days in a row and/or training the same muscle groups twice in a row or more; etc) and your nutrition is lacking (too few calories; not enough protein) then you'd likely have more problems retaining lean body mass.

If your routine is totally new then there could also be extra water weight. But in general, I've only felt flabbier while working out when I was overtraining, or when I lost muscle mass as already mentioned.

That's happened to me several times during my 130lb loss. Areas that were firm became squishy then became gone. I believe in that whoosh effect. Maybe I've lost some muscle but it takes a heck of a lot less to move ~150lbs than than 278. That being said under the remaining jiggly fat layer - i am very muscular & strong.

Mine is always more squishy than when it was solid and trying to bust my skin open.

But when it changes from squishy to super-squishy, like melting jello and feels like it's separate from everything else in there...I know the whoosh is coming.

    WHOOSHES ROCK.
