I'm stuck! Motivation, help!

So, I'm stuck in a rut. I find my mind wants to achieve weight loss, get a six pack etc.

But it lasts about 10 minutes. Then I have a drink, or I snack.

How do I get over these little bouts of day dreaming and just make this a clear objective in my mind?!

I've had two attempts at running half marathons this year. The first, I failed, on doctors orders I was too ill to run.

The second - injured, again, Doctor's orders.

My motivation is low. I need to have this light at the end of the tunnel 'vision' in my head and have this clear goal.

Going to try swimming tonight, even with a slight groin issue - running hurts because of the impact so I'm hoping this will help. It's also something I enjoy doing as opposed to running which I just do for fitness. I need to get back into playing football soon too.

I live with my other half and she loves her snacks, she's not fat but she likes her food, she doesn't gain weight like me. It's hard to diet though when there are these temptations around.

So, who else has had to over come this?

What images, motivation, determination helpers have you used to help you knuckle down to achieve your goals? Was it a health scare? Was it a certain item of clothing you can no longer fit into? (I have loads of them now so that should be enough for me, but sometimes it isn't!)

I follow a lot of people on IG that post workout videos, progess pictures, competition pictures, healthy meal ideas, all of which get me amped up to go to the gym and get closer to my goal. #fitnessfoodmotivation

Strip and stand in front of the mirror

Hop on the scale every day

Then just make your choice ...a million times a day...do I want to eat this, do I have the calories to eat this? If yes eat it ..of not eat it tomorrow

a half marathon is no easy thing... why not start with a 5k?

sounds like you're restricting yourself too much if one drink or snack ruins your plan completely??

I've done two half marathons before in the preceding years - so it's demotivating that I've not been able to do these. I am going to look at doing shorter distances though in the future.

I was speaking hypothetically with regards to having a drink and a snack. Just using that as an example to illustrate how my mind can go from determination to laziness in one moment. I just have to be a bit stricter on my self. Enjoy that snack at the weekend, then I can see that as a treat instead of the norm. I agree with you in the sense that I shouldn't restrict myself, it's hard though with a Missus that loves to just eat all the time! haha

That's a great idea. I don't use IG that much but that could help!

me =) I also live with my other half who eats the most amount of crap possable, he can eat 350g dairymilk in one sitting with about 2 packs of crisps and a 2ltr bottle of something fizzy ... The trick i use is picturing the fat that is inside of his snacks and imagine drinking/eating the fat on its own, this put me off quite alot of things, if you have a good imagination it will work. I havent stopped buying junk food because he still wants it so all the tempting food is still in my house but I choose not to eat it =) hope this helps =) its hard at the beginning but it gets easier and soon your body stops craving it =)

My goal is to be the best version of myself, but I lose motivation right when it starts to turns cold. It's hard coming inside when I love the outdoors, and I do not want to train in a gym.
SOLUTION: I just shock my body for 10 hours with non-stop exercise in a gym facility which changes my thinking. You must do whatever stokes your fires.
Anyway, this is my resolution to my motivation issue; check it out..

This is what I do. You have to sift through alot of BS, but there is definitely some motivation there.

After I had my baby I wanted to lose 40lbs and be fit so that I can have an active lifestyle with my son and also be a good example for him.

I motivated myself by doing a number of things:

    1) Hung a small size dress in a spot that is visible to me everyday.
    2) Started logging my food intake and exercise
    3) Set a series of smaller goals (ie instead of saying I wanted to loose 40 lbs in 3 months, my goal was to lose 1.5lbs by next week). I wrote down my target weight each week in a place where i would see it several times a day.
    4) I also set milestone goals (i.e 160lb by son's birthday, 152 lbs by graduation and so one). My goals were very realistic, keeping in line with 1.5lbs per week.
    5) I used lots of imagery. Picturing myself in the small sized dress and browsing images of other fit and healthy individuals. I also frequently look at a picture of 1lb of fat to remind myself how far I have come.
    8) made friends on MFP and motivated them also

I worked very hard the first month without seeing too many results, but I kept telling myself to TRUST THE PROCESS. Other people started noticing and that old clothes also started to fit. Those are great motivators.

Take it one day at a time but don't beat yourself up with you slip up. Just re-focus and start again.

I've lost over 30lbs with taking the above approach and I hope something similar works for you.

    Good luck!!!!
