Logging Weight lifting and calories burned

I don't understand how the app can determine the amount of calories you burned lifting weights by the amount of time you spent lifting weights. Wouldn't it be similar to running faster or slower on the treadmill and your heart rate to determine how many calories you burned? For instance, the heavier the weights you're lifting the higher your heart rate goes therefore burning more calories than lighter weights.

    You are right. But what is the alternative? Entering every rep/lbs? Not logging it at all?
    I typically log it as 1 minute just to keep track. I am more hungry on lifting days and might go over by 100-200 and that might account for my 50min lifting session.

    I'm confused because when I put in my weights sessions it just has reps, sets and weight per set but just logs it with no calories burned? Am I entering it wrong? I thought maybe weights sessions just don't count as calories burned???

    You can log it under cardio instead of strength, to get a calorie burn. I use a heart rate monitor so that I can get a closer idea of what I've burned.
  • I'm interested to know what an average weight lifting burn even is. My gym has me on a set program of weights/sets/reps and my weight, age and height are calculated in as well. At the end of the workout it will tell me what I've burned if I've followed the plan, but the amount of calories burned seems high. Typically it's 450-500 for 20 minutes of cardio (rowing machine) and 40-50 minutes of weight lifting and strength training. Does that seem accurate? (I'm female, 5'5", 37yo, 147lbs)

    To get calorie credit for weightlifting, go under cardio & search for this phrase:
    Strength training (weight lifting, weight training)
    It's not much of a credit, but some is better than none.

    For 30 minutes at my current weight (about 218) it says I burn about 150 cal.
    That changes as my weight drops, of course.
    For comparison, 30 min on the elliptical is about 440, and for the "hill" setting on the treadmill at 3mph is 350. Flat surface walking at 3mph is 160.

    From what I read, rowing is one of those super duper calorie burning exercises so yeah I'd say that's close to right!
