Pole fitness?

I've been doing pole fitness as a way to tone up. What exercise would I class it as in the daily diary? Could I class it as strength training?
Any other pole fans out there? It's giving me so much confidence as I loose weight!

This has been asked a lot. Wearing a HRM to class with you would be your most accurate answer. For me "Circuit Training" was the closest to the totals I got with my HRM.

I've been doing pole for just over a year now. Better than the weight loss is the strength. You'll notice huge changes in your upper body pretty quick. Just be sure you're working your lower body as well (lots of pole squats and lunges). Another easy pitfall with pole is having one side WAY stronger than the other. Make sure you are working any spins, tricks, combos on both your right and left side. Not only will this keep your body in balance (I had one bicep bigger than the other for a while) but it will make you a better dancer.

I did have a HRM watch but it was so inaccurate considering the price I paid. I can already feel the changes, I prefer my right side so I've ended up with one bicep slightly bigger like you did. Trying to even them out now:)

Hey! I've been doing pole too for about 2 months! I love it!!! I use MapMyRun and it auto transfers to MFP. It actually has pole listed!! I think MFP lists it as dancing, general.

I was at a pole fitness class just the other day. They all looked pretty good but I couldn't believe they had a cover charge.

^^^and this joker is one of the reasons it's so difficult to have a normal conversation about the best upper body and core work out i've ever done. pervos. i can't talk about pole at all without some one anywhere going all 8th grade on the topic. when i did it, i used circuit training.

Curious, how do you do circuit training with pole dancing?

Wow what's with the flags people. Someone is very immature. One important factor in working out is to do something you enjoy and it is a great form of exercise, and despite what the above child suggests, no it doesn't involve taking off your clothes.

Pole exercises are much more enjoyable with a workout partner who can properly push you...

Re: What kind of circuit? Maybe take a class and find out. It's legit the best core exercise I've ever done. I never danced "sexy" on a pole purposefully. I did inversions, pull ups on a pole, pole climbs, various climb holds, core exercises like hanging leg raises, leg-strength exercises like knee holds, etc. We actually had a circuit we would go through every day of various conditioning things like max effort pole climbs and pole pull ups in a certain amount of time and then combos of strength holds. I never really did much floor work, just used it for strength conditioning like calisthenics. I did pole because I enjoyed gymnastics as a kid and am interested in yoga. I do Crossfit, and I think it's harder than Crossfit, personally. If we still had a pole studio where I live, I would 100% be doing it because I think it would make me a better powerlifter than I am now due to the core, stability, and body awareness issues.

Sometimes you have the smartest posts on MFP and sometimes you have the dumbest.

I legit have never even seen a lap dance nor really understand what it actually entails, but apparently it's your thing. I have seen male powerlifters take pole classes, BTW.

I list it under dance, it seems to be the closest for the calorie burn

I wanted to try pole fitness too. Thing is.. You can find a gym or something. I'm deciding to have a pole outside my house so I can do the exercises. Is that possible?
