Looking for a dark chocolate that is healthy and tasty! Any suggestions? I understand the higher the percentage, the healthier it is, but I cannot stomach the 70% and ups... Thanks in advance! :)

I buy ghiradelli 60% chips in the baking aisle. They are pretty big so one or two will help a sweet tooth. My 4 year old son loves them, too, so that must mean they are pretty tasty. LOL. I either eat them alone, throw them on my oatmeal, in pancakes, etc.

Find a top quality chocolate shop in your area and go in and sample and ask for recommendations. For instance, this is my local neighbourhood shop, and they're great for suggestions: latablette.ca/

The mass commercial stuff like Ghiradelli, Lindt, etc. is only mediocre. Since I love chocolate so much but it's so caloriffically dense, I really only allow myself small amounts so I like to splurge for the really good stuff.

Where do you live? Might be able to make some suggestions if you're in a major urban centre. If not, might be worth ordering online.

Dove dark chocolate has a fairly low cocoa content and it tastes pretty good. But my favorite is Endangered Species chocolate. Most of their chocolate bars are 72%. I know that is a higher percent than you were looking for but the chocolate is good quality and worth a try.

    Here's a link to the website: chocolatebar.com/

Dove, while tasty, is so heavily processed that the health benefits are probably next to nil.

Wow and I thought I was picky. Hershey and Dove = mediocre. Lindt and Ghiradelli are good IMO. Love Godiva and the Trader Joe's stuff (not sure of the % of that one). Also, Cote d'Or, but it's European.

I can do fine up to 93%. I've tried 97% and 99%... yikes.

they have different % dark chocolate from Godiva and Lindt.

I LOVE Lindt dark chocolate with a touch of sea salt or Lindt 60% dark chocolate truffle.

Godiva dark chocolate covered pretzel is also good and they have so many different kind dark chocolate. Like segacs said, you can go to the stores and sample them. You can sign up with Godiva and get a member card ( free) and you get to try one piece of their chocolates every month, oh, I make sure I am there every month, I am a chocolate addict :#

Hehe. I used to think that way, too, back when I ate lots of chocolate all the time. But I have absolutely no qualms about being a chocolate snob, now that I am so restricted in quantity.

My favorite brand of chocolate is Equal Exchange. They have many interesting flavors in varying cacao percentages and it is very high quality. It is also quite often on sale half price in many food coops.

I've been into raw chocolate recently...but it's very expensive.
    I like this one: http://fineandraw.com/
their coconut chunky one is ridic and quite low calorie, high in flavinoids

I've been meaning to try this company soon: http://www.raakachocolate.com/

the fact that this kind of chocolate is so pricey means I buy/eat a very reasonable amount. It's all kind of intense flavors too, mostly very dark. Whole Foods or gourmet stores will have stuff like this.

Thanks guys! SO many great suggestions! I live in North Carolina, and downtown Asheville is not far, and they have two AMAZING chocolate shops. It never occurred to me to ask them, great idea!

Green & Black is an excellent brand. Also, Sharffen Berger. Theo is good, but I haven't tried any unflavored, only the chili flavor.

If you can stand to break a bar up into 4 parts, it's usually only 100-125 calories per piece. I usually keep a bar of something fancy in my fridge and eat it in quarters or even eighths. This is currently my fave:

  • Eat the highest percentage and don't allow yourself anything less than 90%. Then when you eat 70% you'll think it's amazing. (Tried it, it worked. Until I had milk chocolate again anyhow.)
