Hi Everyone,
I have been on here for a while as a lurker and I am looking for friends who perhaps face some of the challenges I do.
I have nerve damage in my right pectoral muscle from a breast reduction that went terribly bad in 2003 and I was in a car accident last June that really damaged my back. I was told I'd need a double spinal fusion (ACK!) but I am going a more conservative route with nerve blocks, cortisone injections, etc. I also wear a TENS electronic stimulator during all waking hours so I am able to work and participate in life. Another thing I decided to do was try and lose some weight and perhaps help relieve some of the pressure on my back!
That being said, exercise is pretty much out of the question. I can walk short distances and oftentimes I practice softball with my kids and do too much and pay for it later...but anything that would burn any calories on purpose is just impossible.
My starting weight after my car accident was around 295lbs. I lost weight due to pain and stuff over the summer, but I didn't start *really* focusing on getting healthy until November of last year and then I started a Food Diary in January and have subsequently changed my eating habits drastically! I am at 246lbs now and I want to keep things going to get to about 195 or so. I figure 100lbs is a great overall weight loss!
So, are there any of you out there who have some kind of disability that keeps you from exercising? Or have you found ways around it? Or exercises that don't exacerbate your injury? THANKS SO MUCH!

Hello Rebecca,
My name is Trudy aka Crasylady! I am in a wheel chair due to me going into a diabetic coma back in 2005! I am however able now to walk a little. Its taken a long time for that. I had a gastric bypass because I felt that I wasn't able to loose this weight on my own as I have been overweight all my life. Back in 2005 when I went into the coma I weighed close to 500 pounds, well after the coma I lost 100. Being bedridden I couldn't do anything but eat what I was given so, that on its own was a blessing. So after that I was able to finally get out of the bed with rehabilitation and hard work. It wasn't until recently that I am now able to walk with a walker. I've lost another 92 pounds since last December of 2009. I weighed 358 and I am now at 266, so I am trying hard to fight this fat problem!
It would be nice to become friends with someone that isn't able to run around and do all sorts of exercises that I can't. If you are interested in becoming a on-line friend, I am here. Just let me know!
