Best shoes for jogging on ice?

Hi..woke up to icy roads this morning (not common where I live, at least until January).
My last attempt at jogging ended with a broken ankle. This time I've been going for six months with only plantar fascitis (resolved for the moment) and skinned knees (one with a still-healing bone bruise) as far as injuries go. I would prefer to avoid falling, and the injuries that come with it.
After a lot of internal debate, I bundled up and went out. I ended up jogging on the grass to the side of the paved trail I used, when possible, and on the least icy parts of the trail I could manage. There was one good dry length where I could get an interval in, but the jog ended up being more like speed walking, and my distance was pretty low. On the plus side, I slipped around more on the road on the way to the trail than on the trail itself.
I have some steel-toed boots, or I might be able to dig up mountain climbing boots. Would this increase my grip on the ice? Or should I just stick to whatever cardio videos I can find on Youtube on icy days (in which case, recommendations?)
Help?

Trail shoes and/or YakTrax should do the trick depending on conditions.0

Ywp, both aren't perfect, but do work if you're looking for something that helps.

Do not run in boots, please. Buy a set of YakTrax or equivalent, put some short wood screws in an old pair of trainers, or buy a pair of Icebug shoes. Do not run in boots.0

YakTrax will help, but nothing is 100% foolproof. You could still end up slipping and breaking your ankle.0

YakTrax Be careful out there!0

Thanks for the help!0

YakTrax are OK to run in, but they are MUCH better for walking across the parking lot....but really, find a treadmill. Running on ice is not the smartest thing to do0

I've read good things about the icebug shoes.0

if you have an older pair you can make your own studded shoes.. google it. ive never tried. I tried some cheaper types of slip on ice cleats etc and nothing beats kahtoula micro spikes. they arent cheap but they are amazing. Not sure how they would be on asphalt but on ice they are amazing. I use them on trails and came out of a trail head onto a field. The trail went across the field and the field sloes to the side at about 10-15 degrees, fairly steep. Any way came blasting out of the trail head onto the field and it was a literal sheet of ice.. I had visions of ending on my *kitten* and sliding 5-600 feet at high speed to the bottom of the field and into the trees. With the momentum there was no stopping and the first step stuck, as did the next one. I just kept going and went across it as if it were the middle of a dry summer. Seriously these things are insane!0
