Non-refrigerated protein bar recipe ?

Hi all,

Looking for a good protein bar recipe for bars I can bung in a bag and tote with me for when I want them ?

Most of the recipes I've found tend to be for bars that end up being kept in the refrigerator or even freezer until needed, and tend towards becoming quite sticky/ tacky when at room temperature for a while.

Ideally I'd love to find a recipe that was fine kept in a pocket or bag for the best part of a day..

By the way, I've used whey before when making my protein bars - has anyone used casein protein in bars ? Any experience/ feedback ?

Thanks in advance

Just discovered proteinpow.com, what an awesome site!

Have some milk protein concentrate in the post, and looking forward to trying these as soon as it arrives:

If either taste anywhere near as good as they look, I shall be quite excited

Dessertswithbenefits.com has some great protein bar recipes. She uses mostly brown rice protein powder in hers so they don't need to keep kept refrigerated throughout the day. I think she does store them while at home in the fridge just so they stay fresh longer, but otherwise...

Peanut Butter Fudge Protein Bars: http://dessertswithbenefits.com/peanut-butter-fudge-protein-bars/

    Chubby Hubby Protein Bars: http://dessertswithbenefits.com/oxymoron-chubby-hubby-protein-bars/

Healthy Nutella Fudge Protein Bars: http://dessertswithbenefits.com/healthy-nutella-fudge-protein-bars/

Chocolate Peanut Caramel Protein Bars: http://dessertswithbenefits.com/chocolate-peanut-caramel-protein-bars/

And tons more if you just search on her site. What I love about her bars is that they are generally low in sugar and use only clean ingredients. No funky aspartame or splenda.

Nice site, must take a poke around. I generally don't use non-sugar sweeteners, but I'm sure I can sub sugar for the ones she uses

I was thinking the same thing! Site looks great but we don't eat artificial sweeteners in our house, personal preference.

If you try it with sugar, please let me know how they turn out!

Will do. Might be a little while before I get around to experimenting, as christmas baking is top of the list, but I'm sure I will sooner or later  I think the reverse conversion shan't be that difficult, but shall let you know if I try any of them out. I do need a decent protein bar recipe asap though, so shall probably try out the proteinpow stuff first, or at least chocolate-coating some protein bars, as that may help with helping them with survive at room temperatures better I suspect

I should add if none of the recipes I find turn out too well, I may simply try adding some protein powder with some peanut butter, possibly honey, and loosening the mix with some milk, before coating/ pressing them in some ground oats/ coconut/ coconut flour. I suspect coconut may do the trick, but they may all get dipped in dark chocolate to coat just for good measure, lol

I have made bars with all sorts of proteins. I am familiar with the ProteinPow website but the Desserts with Benefits looks cool. I have a major sweet tooth so these recipes really help with my cravings. My best bars have been made using Vitafiber but I have experimented with oats, peanut butter, and honey to bind but I find they have to stay refrigerated until I'm ready to eat them. The Vitafiber versions do not.

That's interesting about VitaFiber, must see if they have it in my neck of the woods here over in Ireland

Try a plant based protein, it will not spoil as quickly as a dairy.

www.Arbonne.com for Protein it's composed of cranberry, yellow pea, and brown rice protein :)

    No bake recipe!
    2 cups almond butter
    1 and 1/4 cup honey
2 and 1/4 cups protein powder
3 cups instant oatmeal/ or granola

Combine almond butter + honey and microwave or heat on stove until soft in one bowl. Add protein and oatmeal/ granola in another. Fold honey/almond butter into mixture until well blended and spread into pan. Let freeze for 1 hour. Makes 25-30 bars.

Yes, I'm only realising that now, lol. Perhaps when I ever run out of the 4kg of milk protein I have arriving in the post imminently, I shall try a plant-based protein

Thankfully, or hopefully, I only really want/ need the bars I make to survive 4/ 6 hours at room temperature, so perhaps that shan't be too bad for them to survive outside the confines of a fridge or freezer

Thanks for the recipe by the way - do they need to be refrigerated/ kept in the freezer after they are made ? I tried a protein bar recipe that called for them to be frozen and actually kept in the freezer and only let thaw briefly before being eaten, but they seemed to get awfully 'tacky' at room temperature..
