Now the weather has improved and the motivation has kicked in, I'd like to step things up a little for May and try and lose 6lbs during the course of the month. My personal motivations are:

1. It will take me below 13st making more than a stone lost
2. It will bring me into the 170s in lbs, a nice round number
3. I've got a week off starting at the end of the month including a couple of days away. I'd love to wear shorts and maybe even a bikini without a public health warning.

The way I intend to go about it is:

1. Staying within my calories every day
2. Drinking more water and less booze!
3. Working out harder and for longer
4. Swapping my rest day for an "active rest" day with some less intense walking or swimming.

Who's with me?

Berry

I will go about it, by

    1) staying under my calories.

    3) I will hit my target of 6 glasses of water a day

Yep indeed count me in - the last few weeks have involved BBQ & drinking and I have gained a few pounds - 6lbs in May would be fantastic and get me back on track.

    My motivations;
    1) Summer is on its way and I want to waer summery clothes not baggy cover up winter clothes!
    2) Feel healthier
    3) Family holiday in August and would love to hear the familiy say 'wow you look good'!

    What I will do;
    1) be honest and log ALL food that I eat
    2) keep within my allocated calories
    3) step up and do more exercise

Since you said maintainers can join, Berry, I'm SO in!

I need to focus hard not to let the good work go now I'm at my goal weight. I won't hate it if I shed another pound, but it shouldn't be about the weight at this point. I need to focus on quality nutrition and fitness.

    Motivations:
    1) 10k race this Saturday. Possibly another in June. And a half marathon in September, maybe... (should I???)
    2) Summer coming up - have vacation to Tanzania planned. Will rock my new bikini on the beaches of Zanzibar!
    3) Goal to reduce body fat/build muscle before August. And to squat the weight equivalent of my work colleague who's trying to shed some weight and using the same personal trainer as I am.

    Projects:
    1) Finish my 10k on Saturday, preferably in less than 50 mins
    2) Stay within my calorie allowances for the weekly average (zig zagging is key here)
    3) No added sugar or white carb stuffs (bread, pasta etc.) for two weeks after next weekend.
    4) Maintain current weight, weigh-in every two weeks.

Great idea Berry!!!! That would be lush to lose 6lb in May!!

I would then be halfway along my target of what I still want to lose!!

Didnt lose any last week so if i cut my cupcake treats out, drink more water & increase the exercise I could be in with a chance!!

Am doing a 10k in 2 weeks so have got to be good with the food & water intake anyway - dont think I will beat my time of 70mins from last year but it's Race for Life so guess it's a good cause just to take part!

Am also on hols beginning of June so what a great motivator - u are on girlie!!!!!!

Me too - gained 3 lbs over Easter so need to shift those PDQ!
Holiday from 10th June - so if I lost 6 in May that would be great.
Currently - 189lbs. GW 179lbs to be in healthy BMI but would be happy with 182lbs as that is exactly 13 stone.
    I will do this by:

    1. Drinking more water.
    2. Run every other day - except this week as I have mucked up my diary with my P.T.
    3. Do some lower impact exercise in between.
    4. Finally try out a Zumba class this month.

    I wil do this because:

    1. Holiday in June - would like to feel confident in a swimsuit (too many stretch marks for a bikini!!)
    2. To prove to myself that I can get to 13 stone.

    That is all.
    Very best of luck everyone.
Berry - do I need to do anything else to be in on the challenge?? Thanks for posting it.

Making a start - up to my fourth cup of water (I'm sloshing already!) and had a brisk lunchtime walk on my scheduled day off after my long run. I know what I'm having for dinner so I've planned in my calories for the day.

    How's everyone else doing?

Alison - I hadn't thought about a specific challenge, but how's this for the first week:

Burn at least 200 calories through exercise every day.

    Anyone up for it?

Inge - 50 min 10K? :noway: I'm SO in awe of you! You're in such good shape you could do a half marathon in your sleep by the sound of it! Go for it - I've got one planned in October.

Dragonfly, 70 mins is my best time too. I'm doing a couch to 10K at the moment (I had to start from scratch again!) and I need to schedule in a race. My nearest RFL 10K is in July.

Any other week I'll be part of that challenge. This week, however, I need to rest my legs before the race on Saturday. So while I hope to get to 200 cals by walking every day, I won't pledge to it. But I'm with you next week!

    I'm with you!

    My goals are:
    1. Re-learn how to tackle.
    2. Increase my upper body strength
    3. Increase my endurance
    4. Drink more water, especially the day before rugby game days, its not enough to guzzle water the morning of the game.

    I'm doing this because:
    1. I want to keep up with the rest of my team
    2. I want to actually contribute to games, and not just run around like chicken with head cut off (lol)

I will join you! 170s is so close I can taste it. I saw 181 on the scale yesterday although it was back up to 182 this morning. I will do my best to exercise more. I will definitely join you on the less booze more water thing as I really do think that is my big hang up. If I didn't enjoy wine so much I would be skinny and it costs a LOT of calories! Good luck to all of us!

The burning of 200 cals a day sounds like a good plan. I have also started today buying a 500ml bottle of water for my desk which i have to drink in my working day!! This on top of the 7 cups of green tea a day (I only use the caffiene-free-nothing-else-added brands) has me nicely sloshed!! Only downer is the amount of "wee" breaks I now have!!! Dont drink as much of the tea at weekends for that reason but may have to set myself a target of maybe two extra glasses of water.

One thing if anyone could answer is, I don't drink a lot if alcohol normally but since I started on MFP I have dropped it to 2 to 4 (varies) bottles of coors light a week - would there be any benefit in cutting out alcohol altogether for May?

Good luck to everyone else BTW!!! :drinker:

I'm with you - got to get out of this plateau!

    My goals are:
    1. Get out of this plateau I've fallen into, and come out of it gradually and steadily.
    2. Complete the C25K programme by the end of May and learn how to run for 5K.
    3. Achieve my fitness goals on MFP, that is five 45-minute workouts a week to a total of 2000 calories burned.

How I intend to do this:

    1. Net 1300 calories a day or as close as possible rather than 1200 from before. i.e. increase net calories. Go up if necessary.
    2. Make time in the morning to do the C25K which leaves me open to more exercise in the afternoon.
    3. Drink enough water to even out my weight measurements and help prevent extra water retention.

Hi =) I have done well today, so far under my calories, ive burnt 600 ish calories....I have a nice day of burning tomorrow :) and ive drunk 5 of my 6 waters :)

I think, it may be an idea, to post a new post every every week - sunday maybe? - where people can post how they have done during the week and any other stats in that they want?

There's some great goal ideas out there girls! Dragonfly, feel free to drop the booze if it'd help you. I'm cutting back, but I'd miss my weekend wine! Helenium, I'm so with you for the plateau busting.

I like the progress post idea on a Sunday, Hype. How about including a photo, but instead of the usual body shot it could show an NSV like the view from a new place you walked or ran, shiny new trainers, or a particularity well-toned bicep?

    How is everybody doing today?

I've had a light run on a treadmill and done a little hiking (good) - but I'm stuck in a tiny, remote Norwegian airport with no cafe. Had to resort to vending machine candy bars for nourishment... But just the least calorific ones! Hope to find more quality nourishment at the next airport in a couple of hours.

Ooh love Norway been all over!!!!

Had planned to go for a couple mile run but didn't get home til 8 & was ridiculously tired with irritated stomach so just settled on ironing hence I am a 100 cals short on the "at least" daily exercise. Food wise been good (bar the stomach ache!!) though.

Someone commented on my weighloss today so gave me a bit of a confidence boost!!

We can do this everyone!!! :flowerforyou:

Finally got that next pound off! And because things were feeling looser, I measured my waist - another inch off there! I really needed this shake-up

Meant to say it was my easy recovery run last night - 5 min walk warm-up, 6*5 mins with 1 min recovery breaks, 5 min cool-down. This was my long run not so many weeks ago!

This thread kept me honest yesterday! As I'm running tonight I did some walking, with purpose! I walked to the supermarket and back rather than taking the car, then to the polling station to vote and back towards home. I was only up to 180 calories so I kept going until I hit 200!

Right. I *may* have broken my plateau - finally! I have gone down 0.75 lbs since the beginning of May. It's a really good feeling. Hope it continues!

I ran for 25 mins without stopping today, which is a new personal best. I covered 3.2 km and burned about 260 calories. Having increased the exercise recently seems to be nudging my metabolism - it's creaking into life.

I'm returning to my university city on an educational visit on 19th May and I'd love to be down 3 pounds by then, which would get me half way through the goal.

Oooh, race day. Excited! Trying to remind myself that it's no major setback if I don't make it past that magical 50 min barrier today- as long as I am totally exhausted at the finish line. Right?

Good luck Inge! Looking forward to the race report.

Just a pound down, and an inch off my waist this week. Swum yesterday. Now it's stopped raining I'm off for the longest run of my training schedule. I've got some cute pictures of stuff I've seen on my runs to share when I get back!
