If you can't vent online in a forum like this, I'm sure you'd be a real jerk to family and friends. I'd rather be a jerk online just blowing off steam to whoever will listen than in RL. I'm pretty sure I'm good at it, too. Anyway, have a great day!
LOL oh my boyfriend got a good bit of my rant too lol but yes i completely agree, i dont know if the guys attitude frusterated me more or if the people online being jerks... like really, if you dont have anything nice or constructive to say then dont post!0 -

The jerk stereotyped you and immediately assumed that you were ignorant about training, and assuming you were incompetent in spite of the fact that you clearly did your research about 5x5 Stronglifts. You see this junk SO much you'd need to be the Dalai Lama to be wholly unaffected.
I completely agree, thats part of the reason why i actually switched gyms...there was NO FEMALES in the free weights area... and it was all meathead guys who were grunting and just obnoxious... i am pleased to say that i went for my workout last night and there were quite a few women lifting heavy in the free weights section and there was a guy who was on the smith machine next to me who was like "i see you working over there" its a much more supportive environment minus this one guy
Do you realize that now you're judging people calling them meatheads and because they grunt. How is that not the same as what you felt someone was doing to you? Because it's different due to you being a woman? I grunt sometimes when I deadlift heavy or bench, does that make me a meathead?
Sorry if you took that the wrong way but this is what I meant

Does not want to be judged... yet does judging... Seems legit.0 -

depends how you define realistic, i think. reality is that *kitten* happens and people frequently suck, and unless something is medically wrong with you, interacting with other humans will have an effect. it's supposed to have one; the only people who are genuinely too dissociated from their own species to be bothered by things tend to be very unhealthy indeed.
Yes, those people are called sociopaths.-2 -
It's not just about that guy. He's not the only one.
OP, I feel you. I'm 5'3 and about 118. I add 630 to the sled (14 45lb disks) for the leg press. Years of figure skating and ballet will do that to a girl.I have a small frame and am not bulky.
Guys will always come and take the 45s off the leg press racks when I'm on it (an ALWAYS in the middle of a rep). They look at me funny and often ignore me when I ask them not to take them please because I'll need them. Then I need to go scrounging around to find enough. I think it's because I'm small and female. I feel like I could be the scrawniest male in the gym and they'd leave me alone.
Other entertaining comments from guys while I'm lifting, which I've loved for the last 20 years, include:- "You look so intense and unapproachable when you're lifting. Can't you just relax and smile?" Seriously, dude? What look do you have on your face when you're leg pressing about 650 lbs? Oh yeah, none, 'cause you don't lift that much.
- "That's a lot of weight for a little thing like you. Are you sure you have that added up right?" Yes, I am. (Smacked him upside the head with my abacus.)
- "You should lift less weight. You don't want to get too big and bulky, you want to be more feminine. Guys don't like the muscular, bulky girls." All the better to kick your *kitten* with ...
Geesh! That being said, most of the men at my gym rock. I've gotten some great tips and pointers from my fellow gym peeps (male and female). I just don't get why some men feel they should/can make those "helpful' comments. The "approachable" one happened a few weeks ago. I don't use the gym as a pick-up joint, I'm there for fitness. There are plenty of girls that are obviously looking for dates and they're easy to spot--they're the wardrobe malfunctions waiting-to-happen walking .001 mph on the treadmill. Save the "helpful" commentary for them, please.0 -

That is so rude I nearly can't imagine. It does remind me of the guys who tell you to "smile" all the time. I'm not there solely for your viewing pleasure, or to make you feel better about your day, at least, not by plastering a constant grin on my face.0 -

So because someone prefers not to stress over every little thing, be overly dramatic about or blow up a situation, that means they are sociopaths? LOL.
I think it's hilarious how there are people in a public forum saying she has the right to overreact and post about it and that's all perfectly "normal", but people can't post their disagreeing thoughts on the situation without being sociopaths.
